HAS THIS ANY OUNCE OF TRUTH IN IT?

Shocking!
I have always wondered where those guys who sell the tu-small bananas on wheelbarrows as seen at Airport North - Ring Road roundabouts source them in such huge supply and uniform ripeness!

This is important, read carefully-
Friends, we all love bananas and we eat a lot of them, but the bananas available in the market are forced ripe by dipping in water mixed with Carbide. The consumption of these bananas is 100% sure to cause Cancer or some other infection in the stomach. Therefore, such type of bananas is to be avoided.

But, how does one recognize the bananas ripened with the help of Carbide?
Bananas which are ripened naturally are dark yellow and there are small black spots here and there on the bananas and the stalks are black.
While those which are forced ripe with Carbide are lemon yellow and their stalks are green and moreover they are clear yellow without any black spots.

Now, what is Carbide and how is it harmful? Carbide is a chemical which if mixed with water, emits heat and the heat emitted by a close tank mixed with Carbide is even more than that emitted by a LPG Cylinder, so much so it can be used for Gas Cutting (which means the calorific value is so high that it can replace LPG gas). In the same way, when the bunch of bananas is dipped in the water mixed with Carbide, the gas gets absorbed into the bananas and they get ripe. However, the banana vendors are not that literate and so they do not know the exact proportion of Carbide to be used for a dozen of bananas. As a result they end up using excess quantity of Carbide which gets absorbed into the bananas and ultimately enters our stomach. Due to this excess use of Carbide, tumors can be formed in our digestive system.

So, next time you purchase bananas, make sure you select the naturally ripened ones.

GOD BLESS YOUR LIFE

@ McDoba, I believe magadi soda and carbide to be two different things. Sodium sesquicarbonate is magadi soda in raw form while Carbide is Calcium carbide as regards ripening of fruits.

C&P
Calcium carbide is used for ripening fruit artificially in some countries. Since industrial-grade calcium carbide may contain traces of arsenic and phosphorus, the use of this chemical for this purpose is illegal in most countries. Calcium carbide, once dissolved in water, produces acetylene,[2] which acts as an artificial ripening agent. Acetylene is believed to affect the nervous system by reducing the oxygen supply to the brain

These "scares" are not to be taken lightly. There must be something we are not correcting early enough. The number of cancer topics in relatively young people, including toddlers is an emerging worry. For private hospitals to set up cancer care centres, there must have been intelligence (from medical records) to inform their business plans.

From Ruai veggies, (uncertified)donkey meat and meat from animals that die during treatment and therefore likely to be carrying a heavy load of animal medicine in the flesh, calcium carbide fruits.

Isn't it time the authorities in charge of public health and agriculture set up a functional and competetent Food Safety wing? If European and other western governments are keen enough to ensure the food (fish, fruits, horticulture e.t.c) being exported to their countries from Kenya is safe, it is irresponsible for us to have Kenyans eating poison in the name of food.

Public education is key. I noticed that in Kenya spupermarkets, the only commodiy information that buyers seek is price. At an IKEA or MArks & Spencer store, consumers are more likely to be looking at the product information (active ingredients, standardisation e.t.c) than the price. In these countries, a product label is worth the ink used to print it. In Kenya, even those "alternative" medicines hawked on Nairobi bound buses between Kericho and TOTAL junction will bear a KEBS "mark of Quality".

Who remebers super dip? hydroquinine skin products e.t.c

@youcan'tstopusnow, Thanks for this information.

However,
Not all naturally ripe banana have black spots. It all depends on the type.

Sweet bananas (The small ones) we call them wang'ae at our place and they don't get black spots.

@new investor: now I know you are my village-mate. You are the first Kikuyu person that I've heard calling them "WANG'AE" ever since I came to Nairobi. Every time I use that name, people either laugh and call me "mshaoo" or look at me in bewilderment.

It's good no know that I have a village-mate in wazua.

And you are correct: wang'aes do ripen uniformly in bright yellow colour.
