I haven't been keen enough to check my prices while at the till, thanks for the heads up. I do my monthly shopping at uchumi, although there is no real "shopping experience"...it does make do for my basic needs. As much as they have their flaws...I have to give them a 5 star for their sandwiches! yummy! Ham with cheese! lip-smacking!!

Had a chance for an impromptu chat with manager Uchumi Sarit Centre. My main complaint was about splitting of entrance aisles making it impossible for shoppers to cross each other with two trolleys on the same aisle.

+She claims issue is instigated mainly by vendors who want to 'stuff and squeeze' every empty space.

+How true is Citizen's shopping basket which compares prices of commodities across supermarkets always showing Nakumatt and Naivas as cheapest?

I shop occasionally at Uchumi Capital Center and one thing that i always pick is the sandwich despite the slow staff, it is normally worth the wait.

I have experienced this several times at Uchumi Hyper Langata, Capital Centre and Nairobi West. Many items without price tags and price mismatch between the selves and the till.

This is something that can be easily verified and corrected by the management. The problem is that it leaves the customer feeling cheated or is actually being cheated.

I go to Uchumi if I must and I am normally hawked eyed. I donot want to believe that this is sanctioned by the top management although at one time the CEO issued a statement regarding the issue but the problems persist.

Just by way of note I found the staff at Uchumi Ngong amazing. I was a new visitor to Kenya, and left my chnage at the till, by accident. As I walked back home , about two blocks away, I was followed by a taxi, who kept calling me. I waved him away, and rushed on, thinking he was after a fare, but just as I reached my place, a young girl ran upto me, I stopped for her, ofcourse!!! She said here is you change. The staff at Uchumi had given the taxidriver my change and asked him to chase after me! It has made a lasting impression on me about Kenya, that there is such honesty!

My experience exactly. At Koinange branch. It is so bad when you have left your bag in the office, ukifika till the prices start hiking and you have to return goods..NKT!

I am tired of uchumi's ways. Since 07, i have been faithful despite the price tags mess. But its time i do away with these inconvinience. I'm a supermarket shopping 'addict', even if i'm buying newspaper, i now go all the way to nakumatt mega, esp at midnight. I like the experience. No queues, cool music, u get tomorrow's papers already in shelves, etc. At least 3 times a wk, i do that. Bye bye uchumi.

I just realize one more problem with Uchumi.

Staff training is not there or if its there may be there workers dont know how to deal with customers.
I want to be a millionaire.
