In terms of cost implication; I do not see much difference charging fare in Kshs at the prevailing dollar exchange rate and paying the actual dollars. Maybe the hustle of buying the physical currency.

It could mean that there is anticipation of further decline in the value of a shilling.... come on Cde Monomotapa... can't you connect that???? it is a big deal! You need to learn to be analytical not just noise!

KQ always has a day dollar exchange rate when U buy an air ticket even if U came with a truck full of KES. The initial decision to have local flights in KES was more of a sovereign decision than a biz one in IMO. Thus, KQ didn't just wake up the other day and realise that its biz needs USDs to run. If my shopkeeper sold me milk in USDs and I thought it was nothing but noise then my analytical mind could be questioned.

We also pay for services like DSTV subscription in US$. As long as the rate of conversion is near mean as possible, its no big deal if they accept KES.

Truly; I never understood what the BIG STORY was.

There was no NEWs here!

I have always paid my KQ local flights in USD... converted to KES at the days rate.

Even F540 charges in USD...

This system was started many years ago!!!!!!

Or did I miss something?

@ Cde, agreed- Not a big deal

Concern will mostly arise if KQ being a Kenyan Flag Carrier declines to issue ticket to customer who pays in Kes.

Otherwise the difference is same. KQ will generate same income, cost to the customer same, net effect same -either currency!

The point is, USdollars now become the only accepted mode of payment for your air ticket. This stinks to high heavens. It is in times like this that I miss Osama.
