KENYA POWER AND LIGHTING COMPANY TURNING OUT TO BE A USELESS COMPANY

The whole of this week power has been on and off where i live and sometimes going off for 3/4 of the day. They are becoming so unreliable i thought they would never become like the other useless and unreliable company known as NAIROBI WATER COMPANY.

Just learn to live with them coz there is no option for the next 50yrs.

And we are dreaming of vision 2030 and a nairobi metropolis when they can't even provide decent power now.

there is no warning at all, power just goes off. i think there should be some law to compell them to give reliable electricity and compensate for lost business or damaged appliances if the reason they are going on and off without warning is not satisfactory. we need to demand for better services from kplc and not just learning to live with that as someone puts it, afterall they are so fast at disconnecting you if you don't pay the bill.

@Shonagal, I agree with you 100%. If we all make a collective noise eventually something has got to give. But alas, many do have the attitude of "just live with it" hence there is no "collectiveness" per se.

@Dash yes, that's the spirit. we need to demand for our money's worth.

i think that if we could make some small steps to ensure efficiency and we become serious about provision of reliable electricity, then we could well dream on about vision 2030.it really beats me how electricity could be on and off(your bulb at home almost does what disco lights do) for a whole 4 days and there is not even an explanation from the power company. kenya power company is actually making our lives difficult and costly too.

What are our consumer rights here? Some countries have them.

I wish what happened to the postal corporation of kenya would happen to kenya power, they are so fast now when giving you a p.o.box number after having realised they are soon going to be irrelevant with the advent of email etc.

@chanaleze maybe if we could find some way of powering our own homes we would end this monopoly without needing a second power distributor to do that for us.

.... Kenya need electricity market where electricity trading is possible since there is no enough power for consumers, consumers should be allowed to sell their power if they do not need it, eg large office buildings with no overnight staff should be able to sell their power from say 8pm to 7 am, imagine if that was to be happen..... but either way, there need to be some smart people to do it......

but how will that help with regard to power flactuations and outages? it would still be the same unreliable power the consumers would be selling in this electricity market.

It won't obviously solve the problem since the quantity is tha problem but it will enable those consumers with increasing marginal utility to access power and those with diminishing marginal utility to be forced to sell energy or pay more for additional marginal consumption.

@rollout seems like a good idea. Take power to where it's needed most at any given time.

Paid for power token for my rural folks this weekend and so did my other two siblings. Tokens are yet to be availed more than 24 hours later (Got a message from VENDIT that they were experiencing delays and that is all. Their customer care is rubbish). Question is, if the folks are disconnected, will they charge them for re-connection even though it's not their fault? KP is truly shit companySad Sad .

Same shiet happened to me jana - you purchase tokens at 7.45am unapata some few minutes to midnight.
Something very wrong with this shithole company - and why do they keep referring customers to purchase tokens from Vendit and somether company's paybill yet they have never done a proper public introduction to these mysterious companies?
