What effects does the growing of these trees (south african breed) have on the environment?

Do they affect the water tables (levels) such that you will need to dig deeper to get water if they are planted?

Any other effects? please assist.

A fully matured tree loses upto 20litres of water to the atmosphere per day! They are the one reason residents of kathiani division of machakos..and iveti hills ...a rain catchment area for machakos..are for the first time ever facing famine!! Dun greedy idiots doin their best ravage the environment for 'big' money!!... Worse than stock brokers!

Am told that if you plant 30 ft from the water source it has not effect on the source. How true

@ Jammo,

so in your opinion, between leaving land bare (without trees) and planting eucalyptus, what is better?....and where does the water go after it is 'lost to the environment'?.....just curious

Plant different trees! Fortunately some farmers are are trading eucalyptus for pine, wattle bark n others.

It is very true. These trees just suck up water and wherever it (water) disappears to we do not know.
At our place,we had swampy invested with water reeds and the likes in the 80's. When grazing cows in those days and if they stray there,u just pray they do not drown, you just go home and wait for the cows to come by themselves home. if u makea mistake to follow the cows in the swamp, you could disappear in it. Bit by bit,the eucalyptus was planted in these areas. As they grew in length, the soil got drier season by season. Siku hizi, place is dry! Environmental hazard those trees are.
