As an NSE investor since 2002,I've to say this yr has probably been the dullest so far with zero hope left about how we are going to go forward. A lot of the key political decisions are being postponed in such a way that they'll all happen in 2011 or 2012 and therefore make for a very tense General Eelction:

Constitution referendum- this was the event that marked the start of the PEV and will now not be finalised until 2011
EEC- the interim body is due to finish its mandate around this time
Mau- the worst politically has been given 2 years to be finalised

The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; the second is war. Both bring a temporary prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunists.

Success is not measured by what you accomplish,but by the opposition you have encountered and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against the overwhelming odds'

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.

Did someone talk of Uganda? The there are tensions in UG over oil,land,the Kabaka etc all of which have assumed ethnic dimensions. Lets hope M7 will come back to his senses and not take the route taken by Kenya on ethnic polarization. Already ugandan tribes in areas where oil has been discovered are ordering ugandans from other tribes to leave the area... Now there are riots bcoz M7 has issues with the buganda king. Uganda may not turn out as stable as it has been in the past.

Uganda was stable??? When ???? That is your illusion. If it has been stable it is because of a strongman is lording it over the country - the same way we used to say Kenya was stable simply because we were under a dictatorship yet beneath the surface tensions continued to mount.

Just be prudent. Countries are stable today and in shambles the day after. Not all situations go down in a year or so,some just slide quickly and it's all over and u r poor before you know what hit u.

Just have something stashed somewhere you will find it in case of any major downswings in the NSE.

Note for example how everything is back on the downward trend again.

Mpenzi,

At least all seemed to be well with UG save for the LRA pests. M7 was the Mpenzi of donors,the economy was growing circa 6% for a long time,DFI was Ok and all this at a time when Kenya under Moi was doing 0.2% gdp growth and was the sick man of east africa. They certainly did have a future albeit with a strongman who had regional territorial ambitions. I think the facade might have held... might still hold if he ceases his infatuation with war and genuinely attempts to avoid the oil curse,and loses the president for life title. I am not holding my breath on any of these though.

@Mainat,
Times have changed and will continue to change.Those who ganged to fighter others might find themselves on opposite sides or sleeping with the enemy.The upside is that no one will fight the other.Secondly,to the outside world,Kenya is too important to be left to go to the dogs.If 2007 PEV caught the whole world off-guard,2012 will not.This might be the one reason that makes our friends push for fast-tracking of reforms.Of course those at the high table are not interested and all this promises are likely to go beyond 2012.Am also certain that ICC will come calling soon.This will be to break the resilience of our obstinate 'leaders' besides acting as a deterrent.........However,two events before our elections in 2012 might keep the world's attention focused elsewhere and thus expose us to our destructive nature.Uganda's elections of 2011 and US elections which will be held a month before ours..................My mang'otore meri

......and now we are already buying guns (3 long years before elections) instead of buying stocks in preparation for 2012 General Evictions......Kenyans indeed have very peculiar habits and very peculiar people....
