Looks like this envelop affairs is causing jitters at the NSE. I was keen on exiting some counters like Centum but the drops will delay this.

The dip has got nothing to do with the envelop. This is a market correction taking place. It had been predicted a while back by SKerians here. Why not sell as they go down and by them back when they reach the bottom....

@Gizzard,

Me thinks this is neither a dip nor a correction.It's a fall....a hard fall.......Too many things working against NSE.Unstable government ( Read envelope ),power rationing (Higher cost of doing business) and yes.....A looming famine (And this one will make what we are experiencing look like play stuff ).

interesting turn of events,when are the govt. bonds and t-bills for filling the budget gap likely to hit the market? They may/will 'aid' the correction further...my thoughts..

As at 9.50am the greens on the live feed are just too few...the increamental margins are too small.....Should we be set for real shock today??? It appears likely!

I agree. The negatives outpace the positives by a large margin. EA Cables have good results & expect a better 2H 2009. That said,the market does not care much

Yep,net purchases are by foreigners. No counter shows net sales by foreigners. And in typical Kenyan fashion,the pumbavus watalia ati wa-foreigners own the country.

The drops are the typical knee jerk reactions that I have seen on the NSE many times over. Share prices fall and guys run for the hills. But as you may observe the volumes on offer are fairly low,and whatever is available on the liquid counters is being snapped up by foreigners. This is the time to be buying,albeit spreading out the purchases over the next few days. In two weeks time or less,I expect prices to be on the up again as bank results start trickling in and full year results for the June year-ends. I am plunging in!

Opportunity calls but few respond.

As mentioned in other discussions,NSE lags the global equity markets. Lately global markets have been tumbling,so this was highly expected.

Good call guys! The market has quietly turned around. Greens outnumber reds by a factor of 4:1 and shares are getting scarce. Managed to pick some CoopBank yesterday at 9.00 and others today upto 9.35. I am already in the money as at the latest prices and I expect the price to pick up further as we approach 2nd Qtr results.

After going down for the last few sessions,prices on most NSE counters are looking up this morning with demand on most counters exceeding supply. It appears the jitters arising from the envelope are receding. Moreover results season will soon be upon us and this normally tends to move prices upwards on speculation over the results,before their release. Old Mutual's projection of a 3.2% growth in the economy also seems to be adding some fuel to the fire.

NSE imekuwa soko ya njioni,most counters have shown northward movement in the afternoon! May be coz the envelop was not opened at noon as was anticipated - my guess!!!

Kenyans are profit oriented. They easily forget such as the envelop vey quickly. The maximum period such a thing can affect the market is two weeks at most from observation.

I do not agree that there are jitters.
