Spent the day there yesterday.
It seemed to me to have lost the luster of 5 years ago, maybe I'm just older and have come to the painful realization that I will never own a brand new car.
That aside, I was impressed by the Hyundai 4WD and the BMW X6. The former with cruise control and keyless ignition was quite impressive. The latter was a chapter from Star trek, and exposed my ignorance of cars when all this time I thought I was a motor vehicle connoisseur par excellence. I humbly asked the skimpily clad lass where the battery was while pointing at the general location ordinary Japanese jalopies have theirs. She was shocked at my pedestrian knowledge of Bavaria Motor Works and told me (loudly so other equally shocked kenyans could hear) that their cars all have batteries in the boot at the back.
Needless to say I scattered with my tail between my legs.

Needless to say I scattered with my tail between my legs. Pole ndugu. And the said Hyundai also has a camera filming the cabin and the road ahead so that in times of accident insurers can tell who was on the wrong just before the collision. Marvelous piece! Just back from KICC and true the show has kinda lost its glitter. Most of the models (cars, not the skimply clad ladies) are already on our road so hakuna difference na walking through a traffic jam!
True Hyundai was a piece of works and a crowd puller.
BMW showcased the X6 which had lotsa Nairobians ogling, taking shagmodoz photos next to the ride, check out FB ujionee. (heard some chick tell a buddy, "ive already uploaded my fotos and guys are jazzed) Makes you wonder do these exhibitors really get any biz from the show coz there were more kids than adults?
Jaguar was there with some real sleek machines (just 2!) one sporty 2 seater number with a boeng 777 engine, too bad there wasnt a test track!
The kawa Range rover HSE and Sport were on display. This rides are so common on our roads that few guys bothered with them.
Chevvy was there but like all American make, interest was minimal.
Subaru, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota, Foton, Isuzu, Merc all didnt have any wow models on show. All had stuff i saw in the parking when coming in!!!
Just a thought, why did used car dealers keep off? This would have been ideal for them too.
Well thats my 2 cents, and as i drove back home in my previously owned, severally dented, copla times overhauled toyo contraption fondly referred to as "my car/ride" it dawned to me that i might die b4 driving a brand new car unless niya job ama car hire!

@mungaits, just for your info, Jaguar sold three of those things at the show. To a duke from Kabeteshire, to the only Kenyan holding a European Championship Medal and I still don't know the third person who forked out 17 metres. The closest used car dealers came was the website www.cheki.co.ke. Look it up, it's impressive.

I habour genuine thought that a probox would have attracted a much bigger and serious crowd than the Range Rover HSE/Sports did? I switched off the Total Motor show about two years ago when I realized that I would not see anything more than what I would see on the traffic jam in the city. What is the point of paying the money to go see a car exterior just like I would in the jam? The guys showing the cars have no idea what a motor show is about! It should be about feeling the car, sitting in it and then you could later organise for a test drive if it suits your fancy. There should be a drive- by of the cars on display so that guys see it in action. If it has a particular distinctive feature, then that should be displayed in action. No wonder they hardly get serious fellows going for the shows anymore. I once went for a Show where Landrover event where they were allowing guys to drive a short distance. Guess what, they sold two cars pap! I Think Therefore I Am

A guy who I know has the chums turned to him and said jokingly, "Kasee, it is only you who doesn't have it"

A Veyron is a Bugatti. Veyron=Bugatti=Bijuti??? Bijuti Veyron is a model from Bugatti. Bugatti Veyron Supersport is currently the world's fastest production car (431.07 km/h). It retails at US$ 2.4 million - Kshs 228 million and its reported that the actual production costs are abt 5 times - so basically they sell at a loss just to put the cars out there and show innovation leadership. At max speed (431kph), the Veyron will empty its tank in 12 minutes. To put that in perspective - assuming we have suitable roads and traffic conditions to allow that speed, if you left Nairobi at 7am, you'd refuel somewhere near Busia at around 7.15am.
