@Njung'e - The Concourse Classic Car Sale deal is very fair: you pay about sh1,500 for the space and get three tickets worth sh1,200. That was the rate a few years ago I don't know about today....

They should be closing entries any time now so act quickly

By the way,the Alfa Romeo Owners Club (organisers of the Concourse d'Elegance) does an 'Economy Run' to find out whom amongs them have the most fuel efficient Alfa. They drive from the Caltex on Waiyaki Way (opposite kwa-Njugugan) to the Caltex at Naivasha.

Last year,the winner averaged 35km/L in a 2,000cc Alfa. That's the same as a Tuk-Tuk!!!

LOL @ Sheep!! you are a mess!

I totally agree with Mukiha, your driving style cramps your gas levels... and I especially feel bad when boys are out on MSA rd flooring it to move an inch in traffic? what? and for those MT lovers...engaging and leaving your foot on the clutch for all of 20 minutes dont you get tired?

Hey guys, assuming you drive a manual gear shift, does driving your car on free save you good amounts of fuel. Like driving down to Nakuru there's a part (I think Kinungi) where you can free wheel for almost half an hour...Also very important - does free wheeling mess your engine in any way?

How is the Spacio New shape (NZE,VVT-i Engine) in terms of fuel consumption. Mukiha? Njung'e? et al

Same as the Toyota Corolla NZE. The engine is the same i.e. NZE121.

'35km/L in a 2,000cc Alfa' - unless he was rolling down from corner baridi past olepolos - no F-ing way!

Anywho - Peugeot 205 1124 cc - 16-18 km/litre - excellent clearance and a real workhorse. Problem: no temp indicator and can give grief when it starts heating

Still away from Japan......and on to more serious stuff.....Mini 850 or 1000 - 18-20 km/litre. The added benefit with this is that when it comes to minor collisions you have to stifle your laughter when you come out to check the 'damage' and see that fast and sleek japanese aluminum foil is all chewed up and all you need is some rubbing compound remove the scratches and u r good to go smile

Also, the obvious down side (aka why I will NEVER buy a Jap car) - no one is going to jack a european/american/bris*** car.

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

VVTi engines no matter the car!

many contributors seem to confuse engine type numbers and frame numbers. pls note that NZE121,AE100,ST210,AE110 an so on are frame numbers, not engine numbers! it just so happens that for example the spacio, fielder, corolla and a few other models share the same frame and engine. minor point but good to know

Spacio is Quite Good in fuel consumption Mostly the 1500cc. 1NZ-A engine.

Now For those who have bruised egos from vitz u can get a 1000cc Platz. Same like the Vitz but is a bigger body saloon car. Now better still when you get a manual Platz 1000cc you can get to 20km/L (tried it some time)

Now Moving From there If you move slightly higher you can get a 1300cc that will give you 16km/L eg. Toyota Cami,Toyota NZE120 sedan,Funcargo,.............. and your ego wont be bruised

Well i learnt from the Chutes. They have a tiny weekday car. The platz,Vitz.... and then Come Friday!!!!! Boost your ego with your Sports Car. Now the BMW convertible can come in. ....Lakini Forkojembe ya mwafrika anataka apeleke fuel guzzler Mon - mon

@ ihmolizer,

318(ex-japan) is ok in terms of consumption and local town running but as for the suspension, that is another story for another day. Also a lot of people worry about resale value,me thinks its a good car in terms of consumption.

@Djinn: read this.......

http://alfaromeo.newsforfans.com/?p=1144

The guy used only 2.23 litres to travel from Nairobi to Naivasha...approx 80km.....the run limits drivers to 2hrs for the journey. Free-wheeling down the Kinungi descent is not allowed...it's a fun run and cheating is NOT EXPECTED....after all there is no prize money for the winner...only recognition by fellow club members.....

While people are preoccupied with fuel economy,I consider other types of economies; ie acquisition cost, insurance and security cost, durability and service cost.

I have a Peugeot 405,in mint condition, which I acquired for only 150K. When my Toyo 100 or 110 friends use 700 bob worth of fuel,I use 1000 bob. Not much a difference,is it?

This car is in much better condition than most toyos. I rarely visit the mechanic for replacement of worn out items.

My insurance is nothing to write home about. Besides,a pad lock for me is enough for security; thieves have no business looking for my car. As for Toyos, you have to put seriously expensive security systems which sometimes fail.

Well, about re-sale,after I have used it for 10 years,I can sell it as scrap metal for 50K. I'll have lost 100,000 only.

So,who has spent more at the end of day?

@ njung'e

the prob with doors feture more on 504s which were built without a chassis. that is why the doors go off the frame as the car ages and become problematic. however it also depends on how one takes care if his/her car cos there are still 504s that are very sound condition and have no door probs. 405s rarely have door probs.
