Some opinions are treason.....but i concur in some way that the quality of service have dropped below sea level.Safaricom being the biggest victim.To be honest,their services(With the exception of M-besha)are absolutely awful.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

I Might be ignorant but why cant the telcos exploit the VOIP technology which I believe is cheaper...any way once safaricom hikes its rates and YU retains its calling rates then guess what I would do....AM DITCHING MY SAF LINE 4GOOD.

As we are speaking I hav had it with safaricom constant network issues its as if its blaming its ardent customers for using its network.

In my opinion safaricom is changing its strategy from Mass to niche.They seem to think that Data is the future so Voice is dead...they are going to regret this if thats what they are planning.

Seconded; but I prefer 5bob.

There is no point being told that you call will cos 50cts yet you can't complete a conversation.

Perhaps some should come up with a segregated tariff structure where those like myself and GG who prefer quality can pay a premium but get preferential treatment on network allocation and the rest can join the long queue waiting for us to complete our deals... and they can also have their calls dropped when we want to use the network....

Once upon a time there was a company called Kencell an I think it tried the same thing and failed miserably. Premium/ niche cannot work in a country of 10 millionaires and 10 million beggars.

Airtel have already increased the cost of calling in Uganda. Its only a matter of time before all the providers up their prices. Once again a regulator, CCK, bungled. Low pricing would lead to some providers such as YU becoming insolvent - leading to take over by the big 2 and eventual formation of an industry pricing cartel. The newer players would be unable to upgrade their networks due to the low prices. There would be no winners in the strategy adopted by Airtel and CCK failed to see that.

safaricom is to blame for all this mess....when Airtel mooted an infrastructure sharing Idea safaricom was against it...only to consider it later..now they are planning a venture with TelKom to form an infrastructure company.

safaricom in its endavor to protect its market share has continually created an inefficient company that is bulky and costly to maintain.

Airtel on the other hand, its partnership with YU has made it possible to shore up some of its infrastructural costs.

its customer care is as worse as its used to be one is even left to wonder what was the purpose of investing in a calling centre that does not tackle the problem it was meant to solve.

safaricom should concentrate on its core business offering telecommunication solutions...the other non-core functions should be OUTSOURCED.

Is there any country in the world with calling rates as low as Kenya today? Even China, with around 1 billion subscribers (and where low cost high volume models could easily work), tariffs are 30 yuan cts per min (equivalent to kes. 6 per minutes). The only way for tariffs to go in up for us susbcribers to get the kind of service we deserve and demand!
