VVTi in Mazda is called "Sequential Valve Timing" - S-VT. It is available in most engines manufactured after 1998 - including the popular B-Series.

Like most vehicle manufacturers, Mazda doesn't bother proclaiming this fact.

BTW: Only Toyota and Honda (V-TEC) have gone bloohaha about it, yet any manufacturer worth their salt is now making VVT engines

This reminds me of the Polyurethane adverts by Robbialac in the 1980's. This was long before Crown took over Robbialac and later became Crown Berger...

Anyway, polyurethane is a chemical used in high quality gloss paints [any industrial chemist to confirm this?]. Both companies were using it in their high-end products, but only Robbialac was proclaiming this fact in their advertising... "Robbialac Super Gloss has polyurethane making it tough...bla...bla...bla..."

After several years of repeating that phrase, consumers started rejecting Crown because they wanted the paint with polyurethane! Crown responded by filing a complaint saying that Robbialac were misleading the public by claim "to be the only paint with polyurethane" yet all super gloss paints have the chemical.

But on reviewing the ads, it was found that Robbialac had made no such claim - the had only said that their product has polyurethane. If Crown had chosen to leave out this fact from their ads, that was their choice!

I guess the same can be said about vehicle manufacturers who do not proclaim that their engines have VVT...

Same thing happenned between Isuzu and Mitsubishi Fuso trucks. This time it was regarding Diesel Direct Injection engines - Isuzu proclaimed it, Fuso didn't. But both had the technology.
