Sorry to confuse you as probably you are not on safaricom and if you are,you might not be calling that often............ Safaricom was off air for almost 3 hours today! In case you are also not aware KPLC was of air last nite for i dont know how long.

I am aware of both occurences. What was confusing me was the 'safaricom wake up' in relation to the content in your post. I am an Engineer and know the exact cause of both faults to the finer details.

Apparently it was sabotage from one of it's competitors. So sad that competition has reached this level...

Ask MJ,it was him who made the allegation not me. Apparently the fibre optic cable was hacked in 5 different places. This indicates the person knew what he was doing. Cut throat competition, that's all it is...

Safcom should be careful not to catch the peculiar habits they are so famed for accusing Kenyans of. In this case, always blaming the next guy for your failings.

Anywho, personally I don't buy it but that is just me.

But then again,Safcom is not an entirely innocent organisation when it comes to sabotaging competing products and services...and I am not just talking about Zain here.

By the way, where exactly was the cable cut?

Depending on the location, one question I would have for an operator like Safcom considering their size and systemic importance is why link redundancy (if in place) did not kick in immediately. Even if the fault is with one of their service providers,a telecom operator of their size must have a plan B with minimal effect on the end user or should demand live link redundancy from their critical service providers (save for some monopolies).

But as I said, such circumstances can best be analyzed with facts of the what and where.

Maybe @caveman can answer those questions,he's an engineer and seems to have the finer details of this kind of technology...
