The next elections will surely be the begining of a new world for Kenya and I guess an appropriate question for us would be whether the current crop of leaders will do us any good.

My stand is that none of them will bring the change that we want, and this is because none of them has 'The idea'or even 'an idea' that addresses our needs in the context of global politics.

So far we have not heard of new approaches to the factors of production and consumption. For example, Mr. Raila Odinga, in an interview with Louis Otieno some time back, showed that his strategy was to leave land issues with the least changes, and to move towards industrializing the country.

But industrializing a country like Kenya is not easy, especially when one is relying on foreign investors. Besides, what kinds of industries are we going to have? (Especially when we remember that the best of government's effort in offering employment is the Kazi kwa vijana initiative).

The prime minister hasn't been talking to us about these matters. When will he start talking about them? After assuming office?

We need a new foreign policy 'idea'. Considering the debt crises in Europe and America and their possible ramifications on us, it is clear that there is a need for us to find and use our strengths more strategically. When are we going to consider this matter? Who is leading this conversation?

Our leaders are not talking about the most pressing issues, meaning they are not thinking about them at the moment. So why should we consider voting for them?

A plausible reason would be that some of these leaders have the 'technical advantage' of running for government positions by virtue of networks, money, popularity, and the like. But isn't it time we took the Kenyans for Kenya spirit to a higher level by increasing conversations on our most pressing needs, and taking up the challenge of coming with private sector solutions to public sector problems?

At least then we can compel some of these leaders to 'style up.'

Maybe we miss the point when we focus on personalities. Maybe we need to ask what each of them stands for and then support the one with the best policies. Next year they will give us 5yr plans and vision for Kenya statements. They will be full of empty promises and a few realisable objectives.

Most of these aspirants only have personal vision, none of them actually can telly us what they will do for Kenya in their 1st day leave alone 100 days in office. When will we as country learn how to choose visionary leaders?

They will have that next year once they assemble their strtegic teams.

BTW, I submit to you that all is not lost.Things aren't as bad as they appear. In 2002 some of the NARC promises we had were free primary education, economic growth, infrastructure development and zero tolerance to corruption.

We have seen FPE implemented though with hiccups, economic growth, improved infrastructure and a reduction in corruption.

Yes there have been failures and unmet promises(there was no zero tolerance to corruption or 500,000 jobs per year and katiba wasnt delivered in 6 months)

There is a lot of uncovered ground both in Kibaki failures and things that Kibaki gvt didnt prioritise like health and national cohesion.

This is where strategists will come in. However, my concern is they do a lot of copy-pasting from other's blueprints and try to outdo each other in lies and over promising.

The candidates then all end up looking the same. You are left to judge them not on the issues they promise to tackle(coz they're all the same) but on their past, their tribe, their age, religion and personal perceptions.
