Hi good people,

Am bringing in some stuff from Guangzhou China and would appreciate any insight on the air or sea freight costs. Anyone tried using Sahilia, how's their service and costs?
What are the other options?

Thanks

Keep your views to yourself, he is asking for freight charges, he could be bringing his own stuff.

Its been discussed here before. Just search for salihiya here in wazua and you will get many posts on the same.
I used them once to bring stuff from guangzhou. They are pretty cheap and convenient. That was in 2009. Am not sure of the rates now, maybe they changed.

cheers!!

Hi

Sahilia costs are UDS 9 per KG- airfreight. They are very efficient. They have a cargo plane leaving Guangzhou every friday then you collect your goods on Tuesday or thereabout from Eastleigh!

@Elsie, provide your email address and someone will get back to you. The unit of costing is CBM (cubic metres).
You deliver your goods in an office in China and you collect them here.

Afrika Salihiya at eastleigh, for air cargo they have introduced minimum charge depending on where the cargo is shipped from.
Then the charge is $9/kg.
You instruct your vendor to deliver to their office in china.
Very reliable but calling them in china to confirm delivery can be very frustrating.

I have been importing finishing materials on some of my projects from China for the past 5 years, and from experience I have found that you should multiply the Chinese price by a factor of 1.6. This factor will take into account, shipping, povc inspections, logistics of goods in china and your chinese agent's commission.

I usually import tiles, sanitary ware, plumbing fittings, electrical fittings, wardrobes, bathroom cabinets and other finishing accessories hence my calculations are based on that. If you have a 'good' clearing agent than he can bring the factor down to around 1.5.

One of the most important things you need to do is find a reliable agent in china who will ensure you get what you pay for, arrange for the container to be loaded, arrange for povc inspection and finally shipping. Commission for the agent is 5% on value of goods purchased.

Especially since you are buying ceramics you need to ensure they are packaged well, preferably using Woden pallets...it's slightly expensive but minimal breakages (my breakages are below 1%).

Let price not be the only factor you consider when making you purchasing decisions, look at the quality. A few RMB could mean a huge difference in quality.

Otherwise I wish you all the best!

One more thing, different products have different markets and that is where you will find the best variety and price as opposed to a one stop shop. For examples tiles would best be bought at foshan tile market which is around 1hr from Guangzhou.

When I get time I'll write up a full guide on how to import from China.

Eastleigh guys charge about $9 per Kg by air. By ship its like Ksh 35K per cubic meter.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use NUREX Cargo.
