A Kenyan ' Los Angeles' in the offing for sure, thanks to the burgeoning population, and conglomeration of Tech savvy heads in the GoK and the private sector. Dear wauzan, the time comes and now is, to buy for yourself a piece of land near if you have not already done so. In five years time, God willing, you will look back and  and be thankful  that you made the right choice. The price of land in Kenya, with good politics will continue to rise for a the next 2.5 decades. Thanks again to ..... Please 'stand with me for generation Y, and their children' .... aaaand here they come!

New 'Cities' around Nairobi, still doesn't solve the problem.
What happened to Isiolo being the capital?

The 'good' politics that you talk of are bad for economic growth and social welfare. Speculation on land prices discourages investment as the owners hold on to undeveloped land for far too long. When they dispose the land, they profit even when they have not added any value to their investments. Idle land appreciates because either the government or other private investors have developed infrastructure (or promise to develop) around it. It also appreciates when the neighbouring community develop their pieces. Why should a speculator who has done nothing to develop the land benefit from this appreciation? Should such a speculator not share his gains with the government and the neighbouring community? It is for this reason that some families own land the size of a district and will not sell it or lease it for farming. It is shameful that the country cannot feed itself because farm land is being hoarded and will only be sold at exhorbitant prices.It is time to tax idle land!

The 'good' politics that you talk of are bad for economic growth and social welfare. @arc, 'ideally' true, but government land policies in Kenya are not ideal and as long as we continue to get the blue prints in advance, land speculation will continue. Hope you are not thinking of 'price-controlling land!' By 'good politics' I mean a peaceful nation led by a government with good-will for social, economic and infrastuctural development, which is good for every sector. The ideal land policy would encourage amalgamation (either by leasing or buying) of agricultural land for economies of scale, development of satelitte towns which host the farm families, and creating access for food-high potential to low potential areas. But when we start to sub-divide Narok, Kitale, Bungoma etc, the Kenyan food baskets are at risk. Taxing idle land plus discouraging sub-division of agricultural land can revert this, somehow. Finaly, my idea is not to buy and hoard a district, but to buy a plot(s) and put up rentals for Generation Y et al., who will hear nothing of a 'two child policy'.

Doesnt the new constitutional specify that idle arable land should be taxed? Heard this alot during campaigns for and aginst the new constitution. Anyone here well versed to give us the necessary acts dealing on land? The laudable is more often than not rendered laughable by overclaim

"The plan, released yesterday, proposes the construction of an Aerotropolis city near Thika municipality" - they are currently doubling the size of JKIA, what is the viability of an airport 50 km away from JKIA?

We seriously need and welcome this upgrade. I am positive that with the success of Thika Road Upgrade project, AfDB is willing to inject more billions into infrastructure development in Kenya. This also plays a role in boosting the morale of the citizens, who are witnessing their nation developing. In some areas though, like stragetic planning for food security, we are lagging behind shamefully. Droughts are cyclic, and can therefore be expected, forecasted and planned for. There need not be a drought-humantarian disaster at all in the modern Kenya. Upgrade of road infrastructure will among other ways help open up food-access, from high to low potential areas, in addition to fast movement of people, goods and services. Tick

Did I hear someone in this forum say that the Metro idea died with the coming of County Constitution? Well it didn't. The Metro squarely sits in four Counties, and it has to be planned and managed as so. It all begins in the mind, then on paper....and finally becomes reality. Kazi iendelee.
