I like ur positioning in UG n so what happens @ your place when u r not there? I knw, perches r kinda ovr priced here, sorry abt that.so I like mortgage finance via KCB S&L. Buying a perch in Zim..either Harare or Vic.falls would good for me but my resources can only be on the ZSE for now. Harare I wouldn't think twice relocating. It's a wondrful city with very smart and warm pple.

Good and common question that people always ask.
Purely a yearly holiday home am fully on ground in my native Nigeria, just to avoid paying for accomodation when I retire in a couple of years.

It is just a 1/8 acre plot which I have fully paid and have commenced payment for the construction by the same building Co Akright Properties, the price for construction is UGX105 Million spread over 24 months. Luckily depreciation of UGX is to my advantage as i periodically pay in USD by wire transfer.

I even believe when the house is fully built it will be under utilized (once a year) so the idea would be to rent out, rent paid to my dividend aUG Crane Bank ccount so from there I have more than enough for once a year accomodation for myself and family.

Hope is clear now ?

I get u now. I'd presumed that there was a structure there already.thanx n' if those guys good then it'll buy u time as u retire while they construct. The renting option is wise w/o a doubt. U could use the rent money for a reasonable cottage for U & fam and some blow money. Works out well.

It is a 3 bedroom bungalow in an up coming well planned estate called Kakungulu Satelite City
18 KM from Kampala City with sophisticated infrastructures like Golf course (already in place), housing estates, office blocks, green areas and other recreational centers made of over 2000 housing units. Work comnmenced in 1999 but will fully or formerly opened in 2013 by your friend M7 of Uganda, he also inaugurated the estate in 2006, so it is a big thing in UG standard.
The plot was 12M UGX and I also paid installmentally.

Your advise about renting is a good one because 3 bedroom flat in the estate at the moment is
800,000 UGX per month which is a big amount in Uganda standard ie 30k Ksh per month.

The website of the agents (the biggest indegenous real estate firm in Uganda) is

Karibu Sana @Cde

Another African country that was a laughing stock and politically unstable some years back is Ghana.

Things are now looking up there. I am also positioning there for stocks. Again the market is not liquid but not as bad as UG or Tz.

I complement that with Databank mutual fund products discussed earlier and of course real estate.

Young guys like you are not always interested in real estate "hassles" till later in life. I was exactly the same. I hated anything block and mortar. Now I am singing a diffrent song, because from my point of view one cannot live by stocks a lone in SSA. You must have to complement it one way or the other with real estate. I ventured into real estate at 44 in 2006 So late but more seriously in 2008 after the global economic melt down when all stocks went south wards.

I believe in investing on blue chips across markets and you see my posts in NSE because that is the only discussion group I come across. But NSE is less than a tenth of my holding, My stake in my native Nigeria or talk of Ghana is more than NSE but there is no discussion forum.
Often times too I am extremely busy you can notice from my numerous typo error as my brains are faster than my hands on the pc keyboard.

My opinions may be strange or can I say stupid. Often times there is sense in non sense as experience counts. We are all different with different ideals and objectives.

Bye

Especially on the real estate end. I'm still accountable to a few (single @27) so i'm doing my gutsy moves now b4 I settle down with greater need for stabilty.

The GFC in 08/09set me back money wise thus delaying my MDGs smile but when I look back, it was actually a period I amassed great wisdom and learned how to solve problems with my faculties than what I was used to i.e throwing money @ problems smile. Now i'm on the Masters programme, pre-08 was my Under-grad smile
