Everyone I know who has gone to collect the certificate myseklf included had an easy time. Maximum 10 days. Infact there was once a discussion with pals on how its strange thing we got something from government office so efficiently within stipulated time. No bribes, no brokers, nothing.

In the twilight years of Moi era, I needed to apply for a passport.

I vowed not to grease any hands.

At Nyayo house I was advised that a birth certificate was a prerequisite in getting a passport.

Off I went to Sheria house to seek the all important birth certificate - belatedly (birth cert applied for after 6months of birth are so termed).

No oiling of palms here either.

I followed the laid down channel and got the birth certificate and procceded to get a passport all within reasonable time and without paying any unauthorised fees!

That was then, and as you can imagine I suprised myself too.
Now;
A couple of months ago, I got my kid’s birth certificate and got it without breaking a sweat, - applied for inside 6months after birth.
Friends have got theirs without much ado.

I am at loss why @Josiah33 would be in this situation!
Is it sheer bad luck or a particular illwisher within Sheria house is out to frustrate him.
It’s time to get firm and ask pointed questions

@Btimer i was actually wondering why i've got so much bad luck. Am i so jinxed or am i living in a different kenya from all of u who say u got the certs in good time or is something else happening here? Why am i facing so much prejudice?

You also need to get rid of your negative 'i am jinxed' mindset. All the best this coming week.

Guess those guys at sheria house don't think much of a small guy trying to get his son's birth certificate. If i had a big body and maybe a beer belly they would take me more seriously. Well! Looks can deceive, so don't judge a man by the size of his tummy.

I pity Josiah. Maybe I am lucky because I have never bribed to get my own birth cert, ID, passport, childrens birth cert, driving licence, title deeds....I have NEVER bribed GOK or NCC employees, but I get my documents.

@cmk most people employ the services of this brokers and it's just that they won't admit it. it's the 'easiest' way to get things done in kenya. @sihingwa lucky you

Eh dude! If you want to bribe then just bribe as cmk has told you. Stop looking for people to condone it. If you think your jinxed just send your wife or relative

Actually Josiah33, you'd be surprised at the number of people who will NOT pay a bribe (at least to anyone who is not a traffic cop). but there are others (and I suspect that you are one of them, my apologies if I'm wrong) who believe that things never happen without paying. Unfortunately, things always go awry for them. I would not be surprised if "your broker" is facilitating the loss of the cert having discovered that you are willing to pay. I've a friend who has gone through this everywhere - driving school, driving test, 1st job, 2nd job, birth cert, passport, ID, degree etc. I 've always been a step behind him and NEVER given a cent despite his "streetwise advise"

@dash am not looking for people to condone it, i just happened to ask around and what i discovered is that most people including my friends use a broker.@mozenrat i hate this brokers and i don't even know why u think i have one but it's the reality at least for most people( i not included)even if u've been lucky to get things done for u at govt. offices.

DISCLAIMER: I WAS JUST STATING THE CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS IN MATTERS OF OBTAINING A BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND THAT DOESN'T IMPLY THAT I AM ADVOCATING THE USE OF A BROKER IN GETTING THINGS DONE FOR YOU AT ANY GOVERNMENT OFFICE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, IT'S MY SINCERE WISH THAT THIS BEHAVIOUR CEASES TO EXIST AND WHY WOULD I BE HAPPY TO PAY SH.1500 INSTEAD OF SH.150 TO GET A BIRTH CERTIFICATE?
