Let's face it, when it became a requirement to have a birth certificate inorder to register for national examinations and probably get enrolled in primary school some goons saw an opportunity to make cash. Now people are looking for that birth certificate more than a few years ago when most people didn't see the need for chasing around after the document.

@ Josiah. I got the certs for my children over December and this took me some two weeks.Luckily I was on leave and decided to be patient through the process. It worked even after one of the brokers asked how fast I needed them.I just told him am in no hurry and he backed off.

Probably one of these fellows approached you and fell for his antics, knowing that u were in a hurry must want to make u believe how tedious the process is.

Last April I also went to register a business and it has taken me one month to get the cert at Sheria Hse (though at one time I had to be a drama King to get my message across).

All in all at least service delivery is there if you can compare with some decade ago.

Cause drama but dont mention you gave the shs.1500

Make that two of us, and I've done it twice.

@kangi i think i mentioned that the reason i am not able to get a birth certificate for my son is because i haven't given sh.1500 to a broker. @Ms Mkenya u seem to be so sympathetic towards this corrupt guys.

Or maybe some people are treated badly and some are treated well and they get the services. In my case i have been so unlucky but am hoping to get the certificate soon.

@Josiah,why would you deal with a broker when it is easier to follow the correct procedure..simply ignore the brokers.I also agree that things have improved much in some of these government offices.except lands offices of course.
Hope is not a strategy

@sanity i filled the forms twice and each time the filled forms disappeared so there's no point trying to follow correct procedure. Well! I haven't used a broker and am not planning to use one but i understand it's the way most guys like me are going. I am going to think of a way to lay my hands on that cert. and if i had the power to make those dunderheads at sheria house or bishops garden house or whatever and those hungry city council guys who keep the hospitals records of birth do their work, i'd teach them a real lesson.
