@flywhisk - That is the debate we need to have: whether we need to have video replays going forward. That way,next World Cup qualifiers can be done under a new set of rules.

All I see now are hypocritical appeals being made by a country that falls on the right side of the Anglo-American media.

You don't start to conveniently appeal for an immediate rule change just because you could have a shot at qualifying in the process! What about all the other countries and matches that maybe had even worse cheating incidents?

By the way,I am surprised the US has not yet announced VISA bans on the entire French team and the referee in order to pressure them into ending their soccer impunity. Hehehe.

@ Djinn & flywisk

The problem with the 'offside goal' against kenya was that not a single kenyan player appealed against it.

@ Taz ..................Correct me if am wrong,but i thought in the controversial match between arsenal and sheffield united,Kanu did not actually score but he passed the ball to somebody else who scored the controversial goal.

Back to the topic.................. I watched the entire match in question and anybody at SK who did likewise will agree with me that Anelka was also denied what looked like a clear penalty. For now the frenchmen may count their luck but if Magigi wants to apply his masoma analogy,then he should look no further than in the direction of the french team. Cant wait to see them being slaughtered in SA.

The way forward for soccer is for each team to be given two lifelines(in the course of each game) for video evidence to be applied at their discretion whenever they feel decisions go against them. If you exhaust your two lifelines before a true controversial decisions goes against you then too bad for you. Personally i cant stand all those stoppages i see in rugby awaiting video evidence.

May be Sir Alex,afterall,has a valid point against refs.

I must say the controversy in football also add to our interest in the game. If we had perfect decisions in the game there would not be any of the arguments that follow after a game.

I mean look at tennis or even rugby who talks about it after the game? You can only discuss about how good a player is or how well/badly a team played. There is no fun in that. Just as long as the decisions dont go against you then let the games continue.

Controvery makes new. Controversy creates interest. No news is bad news.

@Taz,

I guess u got a point when u say that video may not work as easily in football as other sports especially spotting fouls,handballs,etc when play is going on. Maybe the starting point would be goalmouth incidences like offisides,goal line clearances etc where the review is done when the ball goes out i.e before goal kicks.

kenya was hoping to qualify for Africa cup of nations.

The off side goal contributed a lot in pitting paid to that hope.

@Magigi

Are you suggesting two sets of rules for teams with different chances.

Again Henry shouldnt be overly concerned as at that moment insticts tend to take control more than anything else.

life is difficult,you need to play with the referee and linesmen bila hiyo u r out. Henry continued playing until he had the whistle. thats the rule of the game.
Kenya should complain on the penalty that oliech was denied

Henry did admit handling the ball,but he said,'the ball bounced off his hand,the referee didnt blow' so he crossed the ball. In otherwords it was not intentional handball and we can only take his word for it that he did not intend to. If the refferee saw it he would have blown the whistle and he wouldnt have crossed the ball. Those who play football know,you 'play by the whistle'. Even fouls they do take place and if referee doesnt blow you continue playing. I understand Irish frustrations but that is part of the game,the game cant be replayed that wont happen,under FIFA rules it final.

One more thing,on Sky today,he did say one thing though,that arsenal lost the FA cup final when Henchoz handled the ball,everyone saw it but the referee. The penalty was not given,sky did show a portion of the FA cup final clip just to prove his critics,and yes it was a penalty,referee didnt see it he didnt give it,so what was arsenal suppose to do,go to FA with the video evidence and demand a replay??? well maybe they should have but we all know it doesn work like that. What i can say is s*** happens in football day inn day out and the rule of thumb is 'IF THE REFEREE NEVER SAW IT,IT NEVER HAPPENED'

FIFA know quite well that it wont stop there,they will be an influx of videos kila siku demanding replay of matches,they dont want to go that route. Hope this makes sense

The only time the British a.k.a England won the World Cup was way back in 1966 on their own soil,albeit undoings which went about to ensure they secured the victory. With predictions currently you can put without favouritism in a position to win the Cup again in 30 yrs or 6 world cups to come. What henry did is surely controversial but Football is an emotional game and controversy makes it to be the number one sport and followed by the billions in the world. Football is all about intrigues thats what make it interesting. The decision for FIFA to include a lot of technologies will help in saturating the spirit of the Game,maybe add one or two things like goal like technology . Football is not rugby or tennis at all. The british media is saying irish were robbed their place in world Cup? Irish were still 1-0 and the result was draw,so was that the automatic entry of world cup? It seems they had predictated they would won the penalties cause it was already on extra time!!!!!!! What if the french would have won the penalties? So how were they robbed a place in world cup?
British Media Hype:
The british tabloids are always waiting for something to paint you evil and them superiors,thats what they are feeding the poor millions and masses who follow them blindly. How many controversies have been in football and even Manipulated by england but not mentioned?? Ignorance and hypocrisy is the foundation of the britons,thats why when you hear them explaining the chances of england winning the world cup or the best team in the world,talent ..blah blah... you will think they have won the title..or when they beat croatia everyone would be told its the best team in the world..little do people know that england has never beat the top 12 teams in friendly and competitive matches in the last 4 years.. latest being beaten by brazil 1-0 and spain 2-0 ..the same to under twenty and 17.. its a country with talent but not superioe talent and yet they ignore other countries talents..with the masses thinking like them...so sad. Where would the Irish team go in world cup,semifinals? i doubt. The controversy of henry is just like any in football and a team cant force a rule to be changed they are not exception with costa rica or bahamas football teams.. It will be plunging football into chaos.

Kilabe,

Was watching the match live and I did not need the English to tell me wat a CHEAT Henry was on Wed night!!!!!!

Mcreggae,
I dont dispute that the ball was not touched,in fact he handled it but was the problem with henry or the linesman/Referee? Article 5 of Fifa rules clearly indicates who is the final decision..so what are all calls about replay for?? even prime minister of Ireland was furious and wanted a replay. Hey a rule cant be bent because of Ireland. I watched the game for 120 minutes and if Ireland were to win they would have scored 2 or 3,by the way the Game was draw.. so how was ireland robbed world cup place? Did they predict they would have won the penalties..oooh maybe they call it unfair match play..
A CHEAT is a relative term in football and for this period henry was a cheat but it wont matter a lot because soon another person will get that title..Eduardo(Diver),Armando e.t.c Armando 'hand of God' was cried all those years by british ..would they have won if it wasnt that or were they superior technical in the match.Nope. The same applies to ireland.. Anelka should have won the penalty and Gouvou would have killed the game..e.t.c A mistake was done like normal football match but the reaction of the british media is hypocritical and overdone as they are always..i hope that is open and known and cant be disputed.. Rooney was sent off in Euro and blamed this and that..ronaldo e.t.c am waiting for World Cup to see another set of crying babies.. others are playing soccer they play footbal.. A cheat is everywhere in football

@kilabe
You damn right pal,its the british media so hyped up and they are trying hard to paint henry as a devil. They (british) do have skeletons in their own closet,they do get away with murder but they find away to justify issue(hypocritical). When its on their favor they find away to justify it but when the pendulumn sings the other way,they cry and cry,i've been sickened by how long its been going on on skysporst,skynews its been going forever,Fifa has made a statement leo the game wont be replayed,those are the rules i like FIFA for standing their ground,i think by being british they reckoned they could get preferential treatment on this one just like the way they get their own way in UN,EU etc . I'm sorry but not on this occassion FIFA stood their ground,as i said they dont want to be faced with an influx of videos showing errors demanding for matches to be replied,that would be un-ending cycle for them plus its not good for the game,It will take away the passion and kill the game

Too bad for ireland,but even i'm sure it was england they might have declared a mourning day bearing in mind they failed to qualify for european cup last time. FIFA do empower refferees to take decissions the latest one is adding two new referees in the europe league and champions league who stand behind the goal so maybe they could do that to all world cup matches i,e 5 officials on the pitch,thats the furthest they can go but videos then replays that wont work!

One more thing,what about the bookmakers? what are they suppose to do? how are they going to do their payouts? cause they pay one lot the other lot would complain. Roy keane the united great was interview today and he put them on the spot,he said henry did nothing wrong,if it were him we would be mad with his defenders letting henry getting goal wise and for letting the ball bounce on the six yard box.
Becham thinks they are just making a meal out of the whole issue,he said Henry didnt do that intentional these things do happen and for crying out lound,they had not won the match it could have gone to penalties and it could have gone either way. So what! Let them go back to what they do best,waging war in conjuction with usa for oil

Sure Jaheim,
I think this is an excerpt from the Irish Great,(http://www.goal.com/en/news/1118/republic-of-ireland/2009/11/20/1636357/roy-keane-republic-of-ireland-dont-deserve-a-replay-against)
'There was one of the group games,I'm sure it was against Georgia,where Ireland got a penalty and it was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen which changed the whole course of the game.

'I think Robbie [Keane] scored the penalty and Ireland went on to win it. and progressed to be runners up of Italy. That was not a big issue.

About the Game being tarnished ??hell no. even a little bit it cant be changed. and blantant hypocrisy and naiviety for Irish calling a replay,dont they know the rules of football. England did not participate in Euro,what changed??Absolutely nothing. So what about the Irish,,,they have the right to complain but not to overeact with their antics and hypocrisy

@ mwenza,I like the idea of two lilfelines per game which will allow for video technology to be used in settling controversial decisions. That way,the game's continuity will not be unduly upset. I wish FIFA would at least try and experiment with this in one of the lesser known tournaments eg. Under 17 World cup or whatever. That way,we shall know once and for all whether it would disrupt the game.
One of the things that amazes me about opponents of video and goal line technology is that NONE of them has any objective evidence to back their claims that the game would be disrupted. Why not try it out before dismissing it out of hand? I firmly believe in the next 5-10 years things will change,especially when the ultra-conservative Sepp Blatter retires from football
@ TAZ,it's not enough to say that '' football isn't tennis''. Let someone go ahead and provide a solution to this problem,because for sure,this isn't going to be the last such incident

France should be made to wear jersey za Ireland in SA. What more than a token of appreciation? Maneno KWISAAA.

Furthermore,the French are the current World handball champs. No prizes for guessing who Thierry hangs out with,the dude simply has limited choice bana.
