1982 coup was a treasonable offence - period.

It doesnt matter that Moi may have been PERCEIVED to have handled certain matters badly.

Moi had only been in office for 4 (four) years then!

The soldiers thought to have been involved were treated in a way that is consistent with such crimes.
Those found innocent were set free, albeit after long periods - in which their lives were messed.
Painful, but its part of the occupational hazards of sorts!

They have since sued for compensation/damages suffered.

George Bush was thought to have commited certain wrongs, would anyone imagine a coup on him!!

Coups are simply unacceptable!

Every cloud has a silver lining. Without the dark ages there could have been no reformation. We would still have been lost. Tafakari.

Were they hanged?? Could this be one for ICC if they were?

@Gideon, no! ICC business here coup anywhere in the world is a treasonable offence that carries maximum sentence. Something else, the military court martial is not answerable to civilian authority period. Pole for those who suffered lakini it was part of their occupational hazard.

Since they banned me from talking about Uhuru, I will talk about Raila as promised.

Maize scandal, Water scandal, Land scandal - ODM Ministers
Mass action (Result - 1000+ deaths and Internally Displaced Persons)
Coup action (Result - 1000+ deaths and Aggrieved Air Force Families)

The coup was stage managed by Moi's sycophants in order to entrench his dictatorial powers. Can anyone explain while the military evacuated their armourly to Marigat and Eldoret four days before the day of the coup? Raila was invited into the plot and used as the bite, of which being a fool, he swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Where on earth do you have the Airforce running a coup alone? Only luos seem to have been on the forefront of the coup, unless they were extremely stupid, things don't operate that way, you need other tribes for appear credible and serious.

It is all about the fear of the PM ascending to power and taking us back a hundred years. He has previously gone to bed with pink floyds, he is capable and more likely than anyone else to sell our sovereignty, is has been proven to be a born liar, not smart but good in deception (got into Kanu, made MOU which he never intended to keep etc). Such a character needs to be discussed, kept close, watched carefully cauze he can pull a first one on the 38million kenyans without an apology. It is for the same reason that we speak and accuse Satan.

If Raila were to declare that he would not be running for the Presidency in 2012 and retire like Mandela he would rise to greater fame than he would ever have achieved as President.
He would be considered a true African Statesman.
He would also be in line for a Nobel Peace Prize.
He would be invited to resolve conflicts throughout Africa for the rest of his life.

But if he takes the route of a 2012 presidential bid, he will just bring trouble to himself.
The first thing you have to be prepared for when you sit on that coveted seat is an influx of hatred from Kenyans.
For some reason, we can't stop ourselves from pointing our fingers at our leadership.
He will be hounded with protests, insults and all sorts of scandals simply because he is President.
He will be blamed for anything wrong within the country regardless of how this ill came about.

All corruption, poverty, disaster e.t.c e.t.c will be by default his own doing.
And so will it go with all who ascend to the Presidency.
Even Obama who was literally voted into the White House by the whole world soon found himself a major target for criticism.

The question is usually on how emotionally stable a leader aspiring to be President is. If you're not emotionally stable you sonn start making mistakes because the pressure simply gets to you. That's how dictators are born since they will find an avenue to release the frustration they are feeling and who better to let it out on but the same public that is causing them the distress in the first place.

If such a leader does not end up being a dictator he succumbs to health complications such as heart trouble since he's bottling up his anger within himself. He could also decide to loot national coffers to pay himself off since the public do not appreciate what he is doing.
