MPigs Plot to Reduce PAYE

I heard on the news yesterday evening that the Honourable MPig from Nyambene, one Linturi has suddenly discovered that Kenyans are suffering under the hyper inflationary times, and he plots to bring a motion to the Pigsty to reduce the PAYE from 30% to 10%, to effectively cushion Kenyans Now, much as i hate to admit it, im with the Pigs on this one. I dont mind paying less PAYE, actually im hoping they can pull it off before the next pay check Only problem might be whether Kibz would ascent to it, and whether Govt. Ministers would marshall the numbers to defeat the motion.

I pay TOO MUCH tax, I feel like I work for the government. 30% of my hard earned cash and then you still charge me 16% VAT on my remaining 70% if I dare spend it! Not to mention that the item you are charging me VAT on had already been taxed - probably a couple of times. Believe you me, if you are in formal employment MORE THAN 50% of your money ends up with the tax man. Having said that, it is a bit pedestrian to imagine we can set the tax rate at a flat 10% unless of course we have just discovered oil in Kenya. The 30% rate should remain. What should change are the brackets. For example, 30% can be taxed on any amount above 120k, any amount below 20k should not be taxed. That way we cushion people based on their earning power. If you earn 150k only only 30k will be taxed at 30%. If you earn 15k, you keep all your money. You definitely need every penny. If you earn 800k, 650k is taxed at 30%. I can live with that whether I'm earning 10k or 1m. Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Jinga Mpigs.....don't believe they are doing it because they wish you to pay lower PAYE but because they want to pay lower PAYE. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

What a move. The only problem is that even if they succeeded, and Baks signed the bill into law, past taxes will still accrue at the rates prevailing when the income was earned which is 30%. Walipe tu na wawache hizi ma uchizi. Great men are not always wise, neither do the aged understand judgement...

have only read of one country with GDP per capita below $2000 that has slashed taxes to 10%. that glorious country is called utopia.
slashing PAYE to 10% will be followed by a compensating hike to 60% the next year once sirikal starts struggling to pay salaries and is forced to borrow like its christmas.

So, with the government getting reduced revenues, what would happen to the big civil service workforce? How will roads be constructed, external debt paid, what will be the interest rates on domestic debt? Et cetera? Lower taxes will cripple the country and will cause a ripple effect. Let's not be shortsighted. Besides, the transistion we are in plus the new constitution, these tax levels will come in handy in the future growth of our country. I'd want to know from KRA's Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, how much PAYE contributes to the overall Tax Collections.
I'd bet its not more than 10%, again, the administration cost incurred by KRA in collecting PAYE is nil, since employers remit PAYE at KRA's doorstep.
I think a more realistic approach would be to increase the tax brackets on the upper limits and offcourse ignore taxation on hapless kenyans earning less than Ksh 20,000.
It should be a wake-up call to KRA to get landlords and land-owners in the tax drag net.
