Marende has been so adept at interpreting the constitution on all manner of issues. Now he wants to feign ignorance over the taxation issue because it hits him personally. Sorry mate, the law is an ass and you were thoroughly conned! Accept this, Pay your taxes, and move on.

That's what it is. Deceit was employed.

The net result is that they have to pay PAYE on their entire remuneration and allowances.

Truth be told, in matters of law, negotiations are permissible. In the Mps case though, the agreement cited can not be legally enforced.

Marende should be understood for feeling cheated.

Going forward how is he to trust the executive on anything they say!

A lot of matters in Govt, and indeed in Parliament are settled upon negotiations.

At some point, the executive will need to negotiate with parliament via the Speaker!!

Your guess as good as mine.

Marende has been touted in the past as one person to be considered as a presidency given the way he has handled parliament business.

His obsession with this tax matter is not helping him in that respect.
Sad!

President of what? where? how? Why do people lie to themselves so much? How many Kenyans knew Marende before the 2007 elections? He became the Speaker because Raila said so. Without Raila he wouldn't even have thought about it! Fair enough, Kenyans know him now. But do they like what they see? He of the sufficiently philanthropic bullshit? He embodies parliament's push for higher unjustified salaries and resistance to pay taxes. He can't even make Governor or senator! He might stand a chance as an MPig but even that is 50 - 50. And the fellow has been quoted saying that after being the Speaker of the national assembly, there is only one position he can vie for. What a delude son of a...
