I was home for all but 3 weeks and i spent most of my time in a project i was finishing in Umoja/innercore area. What baffled me is that in the evenings i joined everyone else in various City Sports to 'enjoy ourselves'...well am not much of a drinker,i struggled to keep up with the average Joe but most interesting is that no matter how much i tried i found it rather difficult to initiate conversations with the modern day Nairobi chick..Maybe it's because i was not dressed appropriately (whatever that is) but due to the nature of what i was doing during the day that was not an option.

I found it rather hillarious most rolled their eyes,others just kept mum i mean surely i can't be that nondescript and futhermore i was not looking just regular talk about issues.etc...can a woman in Nairobi only speak to you after she has verified your status...found it rather corny that most of them indeed bent over backwards after futher revelations...Any one else with the same experiences?

think about it... if you came from a 'mjengo' site,you would probably be dirty,dusty,maybe even abit smelly.... if you met a chic like that would you want to chat her up?.... unless you like it dirrrrrty.... literally??

@ SimonKabbz

I know i have a slight accent..but only really noticeable if i engage in long conversations..I take Tusker but not more than two pints..i usually mix it with lemon juice..

@ Caesar

I live in Europe but i guess that should not be the yardstick..to me it's inconsequential..

@ Pondi

True i was spending my days in a mjengo,i could have been a bit dusty,sweaty maybe but not that conspicous ...but quite frankly i just could not understand...I don't think it's half as bad anywhere else i certainly know Europe aint...

@Ric

hehehehe!!! that was hilarious... i think the best i have read today... its been quiet today in SK..... You might just have choosen to talk to those who were either

1. in bad mood
2. were meeting their guys and talking to you would have started a fight between them
3. They thought you were just a joker by the way you started the conversation.
4. Had previously met one like you who was just testing the waters to judge them...
5. were playing hard to get....
6. or you could have read just too much into it.... may be it dint have anything to do with you as a person - may be they were just not interested in being chatted up.... you know.... just one of those days you want to have your drink in peace... but if the guy insists on talking to you,you find he is good company after all and why not,you may just chat as you enjoy your drink..... (hence,you read their change of perception after the chat.....)
just playing the devils advocate..

1. You probably didnt tell them,that you just flew home from Europe and were doing some construction. Women like honest men.

2. May be you went to a local joint,where these girls hang everyday and everybody know each other nobody knew you.

3. May be you were publicly dissed by the first girl and then dissed by the second in full veiw of the third and they all though you were a jerk

Next time hang out with your cousins and their friends,I bet it would be much warmer

In a short period of only 3 weeks you hoped to 'invest' and get 'dividends'? the ladies must have sensed your urgency and hence kept off. Such kind of investment can only work on koinange street,the motto being -If you can't chase,purchase!

@ Wendz

I understand what you trying to say..but surely could i have been that unlucky!! i tend to think it's more of a mindset of what is perceived.....well you know what am saying...

@Simon Kabbz

Tacos..well don't know what to say..but i rarely hang out in the CBD ..find it taxing to say the least. So how does one ooze money as you described it.?.

@ Caesar

I have my family,friends and thay have their places,but there are times when one wants to be alone out there and experience it as it is without the comfort of knowing your pals,family is there to give you a heads up on everything...

@ Luxel

If you read my earlier post..i was not interesting in starting anything,just regular random talk..i was able to establish this with some guys and found it quite refreshing and mark you i dint go out of my way to talk to chicks..just whoever was near me. Truth be told you talk of 3 weeks we both know 1 day is more than enough..but that's a topic for another day...

keep up brother!
I enjoy the rugged look(but smell good!) especially when the chicks look down on you flashing biz cards..marketing executive..blah blah..keen to ask what u do for a living...then wasema fundi wa mjengo n they frown away...
enjoy ur well earned pint then leave quietly.
suddenly u meet them at the parking n when u leaving with ur guzzler they quick to say hi....say bye n bounce!!!!!
i guess disappointment only lands based on the earlier expectations prior to the pub visit. but i think some soccer goons can make good conversation anytime!
