If you dont need to open cfc activelite then orange is ok. The orange 3G+ will be disconnecting you every now and then and you will have to email cfc to activate your account. Imagine doing this like 10 times in a day...NA...For everything else I use orange but for the activelite...I use safcom...the whole of last month I used 300mb only. Safcom its best if you request for bundles instead of using their 2bob per minute offer...and this is a tip...if ur reading an article or typing...disconnect and reconnect if you want to load again...1000 bob is enough to last you a whole month coz thats 600mb...

If you need super fast speeds for browsing then go for Safaricom. If you are ok with slow speeds and cheap data then Orange followed with Airtel and the cheapest and slowest of all YU.

Orange and Airtel just have 3G modems but do not have 3G internet and those are two different things so even if you buy the 3G modems you will not get 3G speeds.

@ Lovely2010. I think Safcom has many data offerings and most of those l have met who say its damn expensive and wonder how l can afford it, are normally on the WRONG offering - looking at their needs. Obviously, if you are a normal web browser user, 2/- per minute is DAMN EXPENSIVE! If you are a movie downloader, kes. 8 per MB is DAMN EXPENSIVE. I think the secret lies in the user identifying their needs and relating those needs to the right offering.

Make sure its the orange ZTE modem, it's pretty good and fast but very very cheap, safcom is fast but toooooo expensive. If you use the orange huawei 3G get ready for headaches, especially if you need to be online seamlessly, but orange3G+ (ZTE) is good.

@ Much Know- You are right orange ZTE modem is good and faster then Airtel or YU...their offer of 999/- unlimited for a week is also good. But still it is not as fast as safaricom 3G.

i use their 3G+ which runs on CDMA. Speeds not as great as Safcom but, hey, the cost is just wonderful 4G @ 2.2k a month is enough even for a serious "downloader"

Mentioning YU n Zain with dial-up internet is just a joke. It's either Safcom or Orange, the rest are useless. Last week YU confirmed that they will never seek 3G licence;

Which spells doom for them in data revenues.

The speed you experience with data is a function of two things: 1. The network capability of your network provider 2. The device/dongle/modem capability. If two users are in the same network, using two different devices, the user with higher device capability will have faster speeds. If say you use a 4G modem, in a 3G network, under exactly similar conditions with a 3G modem user in the same 3G cell, the 4G modem user experiences much higher speeds than the 3G user since 4G has superior modulation schemes and standard MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) features. Similarly two 3G modem users experience different throughputs in the same cell accessing the same content because one modem could be MIMO enabled when another is on MISO (Multiple Input Single Output) or even worse SISO (Single Input Single Output). Generally for laymen (and women alike), the higher the cost of the modem, the higher the capability. So you buy the 9,999/- modem, it will beat hands down the 2,999/- modem under similar network conditions.
