@ Smano/Maichblak....Why is it that SAF always spends so much on British born players regardless of age or experience? I think the inroduction of Ashley Young to the team might signal the exit of Nani....i don't think he'll take kindly the idea of him being on the bench for long, in fact he's already started talking of a move away.

Its an open secret that the British and especially the the English players play with more commitment and passion than their foreign counterparts. Its also an open secret that they are more loyal to their clubs.

@TAZ - I hope you are conversant with the new premier league player quotas. If not, click on the link below. "Home grown players" are more in demand and comparatively more expensive because of these rules.

@ Maichblak....I'm conversant with the players quota system which was introduced last season but that doesn't justify why SAF should sign Hagreaves for 17m, Phils Jones 20m, Carrick 18.6m, Ferdinand 30m, Ashley Young 20m plus....don't get me wrong I'm not saying that they are not good players but i just think English are overpriced....Ronaldo was signed for 10-12m, Vidic 7m, Hernandez 7m

You don't need to sign hyped English players to comply with the new regulations on "home based players".

"A home-grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with a club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday"

@ Mwenza....English players are more physical & athletic in their game than foreign players who focus more on skill and control.

River plate relegated for the first time in their 110 years history after a humiliating 3 - 1 aggregate loss to Belgrano!!! Their fans are in full "ngoa reli" mode. Riots all over the place.

Sports 'fans' can do the craziest things.Maybe its a case of herd mentality or copy cat acts. In this very months there was serious rioting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada after there team was thrashed in the Stanley Cup finals

Had not seen how the Canadians dealt with the rioters/ hooligans but the consequences have been dire. Some have even lost their jobs. May be we can import some of those tactics to control our local hooligans.

"Social media

Many participants in the riot stood and posed for photographs, with some even posting the photos on their own social media accounts. Photos and videos were also taken by onlookers intent on documenting the riot. In the aftermath, those photos and videos were used by many local people outraged by the riot, in an effort to tag and identify rioters and looters on Facebook, YouTube, and other social media sites, and to provide additional information to police for prosecution.[23] Community participation in assisting police to identify the rioters has been described as unprecedented,[24] and police admitted to being overwhelmed by the amount of evidence provided.[25] While riot instigators were described by police as a small group of anarchists, the collected photographs and videos revealed that many participants were not connected and had never been arrested before.[5][26] Online shaming campaigns resulted in some riot participants being fired from their jobs and removed from athletic teams. In some cases, violence was threatened against those identified as rioters, prompting one family to flee its home,[27] and others to express concern about the potential of mob mentality online.[28] The Vancouver Police Department appealed to citizens, online and otherwise, not to engage in acts of vigilante justice.[29]

@ Mwenza...After being humiliated by Barca in the CL final, some of the Man Utd fans suggested that SAF should sign players with Barca in mind...i don't see how more English players fit into that. I've been watching the just concluded UEFA under 21 Championship and i must admit that Spain will dominate World football for several years. I wasn't surprised to see rumors of Wenger placing a bid for Juan Mata as a replacement for Cesc....btw England were eliminated in the group stages.

Even as I support Man Utd, I hate English football overall and aspire, like any other fan, that my team can play like Barca one day. That's why despite arguing with Arsenal fans all the time, I don't mind the way their team plays (of course Barca play better and win trophies and that remains the big difference, hence the apsiration).SAF pointed to the fact that senior team coaches are allowed only minimal time with the youth team academies, hence the big disparity between the players coming from academies like La Masia and the one for Man Utd for example. Spain are starting to reap the gains of their philosophy and looks like they'll continue doing so for years to come (as @Taz has rightly pointed out). However, they'll still have to contend with the natural talent and skill of the Brazilians and Argentines who only need a good coach to put the pieces (Messi, Aguerro, Higuain, Alvarez,Pastorre,e.t.c) together before you get the most potent football team ever. In the meantime, Spain will continue dominating with their tika taka.

That aside, I still think 20M pounds was a bit too much for Phil Jones but when I look t the years he has ahead (probably 10+), then there'll probably be enough time for R.O.I.

Alexis Sanchez will probably join Barca (since he wants to go there despite Udinese holding out on a better bid from City)so am not really worried, we still need a big name player in the midfield so if Arsenal can't pay Nasri 110k pounds per week, he might as well come over. Wenger will get enough money from Cesc's sale to buy Alvarez and Juan Mata, whom they're linked with and if they sell Nasri, and other players, have enough for Samba, Cahill and an extra goalie. It's a no brainer for me.

EPL will be even more competitive if Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs get at least one of the players they want. Of course the holy grail is now to beat Barca to win the CL. We are not there yet, not by a mile!

Sir Alex Ferguson has made a £15 million offer for Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara but "Barca are reluctant to sell to a Champions League rival so they are considering selling him to Arsenal..."

Hehe, hata wakikataa kutuuzia bado tutakutana nao - hopefully we'll be MUCH better prepared than this last time.

I really hope we get 2 creative midfielders after the Copa America and I hope we are not bid out of contention, otherwise the best we can hope for is another premier league title or those other trophies. Barca will get better

@ Maichblack....Which "rival" are you talking about, i hope you're not referring to the same team that was humiliated a month ago.

Arsenal wanted Thiago to be part of a swap deal that would see Cesc returning to Barca but the youngster declined, he doesn't want to leave Spain and i doubt Man Utd will convince him to do so.....section of Barca fans rate him higher than Cesc.

Btw, Barca pia si wajinga....ever since we pulled a fast one on them on Cesc they've been very cautious when dealing with English clubs. They can allow you to buy their young players BUT they also make sure there's a "buy-back clause" in the agreement.

I agree with Taz on this one...

Barca do not want to relelase Thiago despite everything, they have very hard decisions to make i.e. who to sell for them to buy maybe Cesc and Sanchez - the fans are saying Cesc is too expensive now but Barca know Xavi will not play at that level all his life...catch 22.

Hata kama Man Utd want Thiago, he'll be out of place in a team that relies on counter attacking football, unless we get another creative guy to partner him e.g. nasri smile

Reports have it that Man U are ready to make their move for Nasri with a view to sealing a deal before pre-season training begins next week.

Arsenal could find it hard to resist a £20million offer for a player in the final year of his contract at the Emirates. Arsenal got £0 - which at the current exchange rate is Kshs. 0 - when Mathieu Flamini left the club. Wenger learnt from that and has made it clear Nasri will not be allowed to run his contract down and leave on a free transfer. There were reports that Nasri would not mind running down his contract and leaving for free if the worst comes to the worst. That would be to his advantage because a club that acquires a [talented] player for free is normally willing to pay him higher wages [using some of the money that would have been used as the transfer fee].

It must feel very good to be Nasri at the moment. Either Arsenal pays him an obscene salary [by their standards], he leaves for a better team now or he leaves next summer [and gets even a higher salary]!!!

On a related note, Arsenal received an improved £34 million bid from Barcelona last night for club captain Fabregas. If he leaves, it becomes harder to keep Nasri! Wouldn't want to be Wenger right now. He is leading a selling club!!!

I think its actually the other way round. Nasri is more likely to stay if Fibreglass joins Barca.

However, this is what FIFA thinks of the english game vis-a-vis the brazilian one.
