Now, its Harun Mwau being targeted by the Americans (you know who) but people dont realize that its because of his stake in Nakumatt and also the fact that America wants to put in place Walmart in Kenya. But instead of defending him, people are like "Oh, how come he made billions and I didn't." The day that Walmart comes to Kenya, that will be the day when employers become employees and GMO's circulate everywhere giving people diseases that they've never heard of.

Boss. The issues you have raised are quite weighty. Without appearing to act for uncle Sam, I find this a little incredulous and feel you ought to share your sources. please feel free to do so

Walmart has 8,500 stores in 15 countries, under 55 different names and an annual sales of USD 258 billion.

Forget Nakumatt, they can buy Kenya and all our corrupt leaders with it...and have cash to continue operations...

Honestly, some arguements border on nonsense!

p.s. Mwau only has 5% of Nakumatt...irrelevant amount.

I swear I was about to post the same comment. Even if Kenya sold all its assets it still wouldn't be able to buy Facebook.

While we sit here and compare what is worth what, the fact of the matter is that here in the US, there is more trafficking and consumption of drugs than anywhere else in the world, and most of it comes from Afghanistan, which the US has invaded, and which wasn't sending heroin here UNTIL AFTER the US took control of Kabul and dismantled most of the Taliban, and from Pharma companies that can't explain how powerful painkillers are making their way by the millions of doses from their warehouses to the street before even going through pharmacies/chemists.

This reminds me of when I was a kid, and the US CIA was funnelling crack cocaine into black neighborhoods. Google it.

Why is Mwau being focused on? Who knows. Maybe he didn't hire the right DC lobbyists. Maybe he deposited into the wrong bank and got red-flagged. But the "list" is a joke. The US actively engages in trafficking of drugs and their chemical precursors. All you need is a "license" to do so, and you are magically legit. Why do you think we are in Afghanistan? Most painkillers are still opiates, and they are worth as much or more than oil (Iraq, Libya). How do you get the license? Lobbying (bribes).

To think that that list of 7 top traffickers is the "real list" is a silly as thinking that Facebook's valuation is real just because someone, somewhere, "said" so, and we are all dumb enough to believe it. Most of the US economy is funded by dope money. That's real valuation, not this ICT pipe dream of what Facebook or the "next big website" is while in Africa, we sit with big wide eyes and dreaming, yet not building one good datacenter.

We need to get our heads out of the West's foolish talk and propaganda. We have African issues to deal with. The side-show cheerleading and Monday-morning quarterbacking from Rannebarger and Obama has nothing to do with anything. It has no bearing whatsoever on how we are going to make Kenya a net exporter, which we are going to do by building industries that serve Africa and the Middle East. There's plenty of money on the continent. Nosing in Western deals is just a fool's soap opera that has no bearing on the reality on the ground. They aren't going to lift the travel warnings, there will be no direct flights, and they aren't going to buy much of anything from us, so we need to move on and do our own thing.

If I was Mwau, innocent or guilty, I'd show my middle finger and keep moving. I wouldn't even have responded. I'd just have hired a lobbyist, moved my money, and shook my head. What I do want to know is that if Mwau has a pipeline to precursor chemicals and hundreds of millions of dollars, why hasn't he set up a large Pharma company in Kenya so that we can export ARVs and other needed medicines, while prices are going up? He could have doubled the GDP with that move. Who passes up an opportunity to go legit???

I'm tired of the "spell" that we seem to be under. No one is looking out for us, except us, not US. The minute we stop responding to the foolishness is the minute it no longer has any power over us.

Best,

Hill

@jason, Im inclined to agree with u. Anything fm the west is always suspect. Whenever I read news on Libya n see comments by b**** Clinton, Hague, Sarkozy, I just get sick. These warlords should be hanged by their balls/control twr in public....In fact, the west has totally lost the moral authority to guide/lord the world, esp in today's enlightened society.

...the discussion was not whether he is the right man for the job or not; it was about his chances of winning the race in 2012.

On that count; I think he has a good chance. He is a front runner, with Raila.
