Seems Safaricom is now propping up a preferred competitor in the market and that's Orange. Lately they have been speaking from the same script mostly against the further reduction of voice tarrifs

This is a preemptive measure after airtel started the same process in Ghana-West Africa I think safaricom is behind schedule they should have inked the partnership long time ago.

This kind of partnership where telcos form a new company to specialize in infrastructural development and maintenance have a coupled effect of reducing CapEx because of economies of scale

And NOPEX too; seriously. In Europe, operators dont just share towers, they share the entire infrastructure: Shelter, power,base station and even transmission. So this could be a great move to leverage on costs.

Definitely the way to go. I see a resurgent Orange, noting that in the last telecom quarter, they showed largest growth in subscribers.

Good option for Safaricom (highest no of BTS) and Orange (hand on gov infrastructure, rights of way) leveraging their assets.

Very interesting move...when Airtel spun off tower management naysayers here on Wazua said it would never work, now the big green giant is copying and innovating...

Gosh. I hadn't thought of this. Orange is sleeping on a goldmine of infrastructure especially the National fibre backbone. The big green must have their eyes firmly set on this. Masterstroke!. In the meantime, Telkom can enjoy 'friendship' with the big boys of the market
