You can but with your own transport and allow yourselve adequate travel time.I would say visit the place first. Approx 5km from Main road to Kitengela.

@jred,be sure to confirm whether you will get allocation immediately you pay the 10p.c deposit.Seems like they have been selling this project for a long time to new members. What about occupation?
Do a background check of the land on which the project stands; migration Corridor??

I don't know much about Jamii Bora but Kshs 1.6m for a four bedroom house sounds too good to be true.
Do the usual due diligence and double check everything before you commit.

Jjred - using Google earth, I measured the distance from Jamii Bora to Kisaju and its exactly 6.2 km. And then I measured from Kisaju to Kitengela, its another 20 Kilometers. I imagine it's a bit difficult to get from Jamii Bora to Kisaju during the rainy season because of the black cotton soil/high clay content. I know the neighboring place a bit. A 4WD car might be a good investment to be able to get in and out without worrying much about the roads. Go and see the place before investing in the place, so that you can compare with other options.

This shows that housing can actually be cheap. If Jamii bora can pull this off I am sure simmilar houses can be put up at a price not too different from this elsewhere.

This houses are brick walls and clay roofing tiles what makes them Cheap is they manufacture/make the two onsite.
Pablo can assist on the kind of saving made.
However, when I did a site visit the houses I was shown which are supposedly finished didnt have Ceiling and the normal fancy fittings.
I hope This will help.

@Keke,
You need to re-read their brochure (If they have any.I guess there is a clause that reads,"Ukuje na ceiling yako"
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

You can read more on Jamii bora housing here
http://www.jamiibora.org/housing.htm
Looks like its for members of the Jamii Bora Trust
The members will receive loans from Jamii Bora with 8.5%-10% interest and 10-15 years repayment.
Thus members will be able to live in a modern 3-room house at a cost of only KES 2,500 (US$ 32) per month
. This is truly unique in Kenya."
