Aaaiii...Kwani Thika Superhighway belongs to central Bw. Nostop? I thought it serves most Nairobi Metropolitan residents, much of central, much of Eastern, entire NEP n parts of RV (Laikipia)....Infact RAO really campaigned 4this road (if at all that gives it more credibility)

I agree with Simonkabz, main problem is the 7 roundabouts between Nyayo and Westlands. Dualing the rest of the road from Mombasa to Kisumu is not a priority. While at it, do this southern bypass ASAP. I feel for Syokimau/Mlolongo/Athiriver/Kitengela residents - no hope until 2016 or thereabouts - assuming work starts next year.

I think u should all leave this question to the technocrats! For expansion/augmentation of any infrastructure, there must be a need (except if you are MOI). In roads, need is based on traffic flow density and road conditions. Therefore, all those trying to tarnish the name of Kibaks, or whoever it is, are doomed to fail on this one!

Let's just agree that Thika Rd project was long overdue, without the ethnic sentiments (came when Kibs yuko) thus the negative sentiments it's attracting. True it serves the whole of Eastern, NEP and Central. But if the 7 roundabouts were taken care of Jana, we wouldn't be complaining. Ama?

@Lolest...i hear you
@simonkabz...ABK!!! where does RAO come into this discussion???
Let us hope that the rest of the country will have their roads made. Infrastructure = development, trade within Central will skyrocket...did I hear someone mention that an airport will be moved next to Central region? This place is expanding rapidly...it is a good thing for the country, but I pray that other regions will be developed too...

If you are going to Ruiru and beyond, it has for some years now become customary to avoid the section between Muthaiga and Ruiru because of the traffic to Ruaraka, Zimmerman, Mwiki, Githurai and Kahawa. A journey to Thika take at least an hour and half on a good day instead of 30 minutes and 3 hrs on a public holiday. People bypass this section by going through Kiambu or using the eastern bypass. The traffic on this road is impossible.

From Machakos to Nakuru the only traffic you'll experience is between City Cabanas and Westlands roundabout. So in my opinion, we don't need to expand the roads yet but complete the bypasses to Nakuru/Naivasha roads to ease congestion in Nairobi.

BBI will solve it

@2012. This is very true. I operate from Mlolongo area & live in Mountainview and mostly the traffic is btw those said place. I'd bet my last cent if those bypasses are complete, we would experience less traffic on Msa Rd. esp of those aagghh! transit trucks

'Nairobi-Thika Rd' is of more importance to the city of Nairobi than 'Nairobi-Nakuru Highway'.

Compare the number of passengers, PSV vehicles, trade / business into Nairobi from the two roads and you will understand why Thika Rd was given priority.

See project portfolio below from ADB - one of the financiers.

Kenyan Oracle, i would tend to agree with you except you left out an important aspect. That is unplanned buildings / estaes coming up.Looking at kile/kilimani even the super high way will not help the intended purpose unless we start thinking about urban planning.
