NEMA sets target on car drivers Drivers with cars emitting harmful gases will be fined Sh500,000, according to new regulations designed to protect the public from air pollution. No idea what fees drivers will be charged for this inspection to be done at certain 'authorised' garages. Nema intends to license garages countrywide, which will inspect and issue vehicles owners with compliance certificates. More money out of driver pockets! I'm not against removing polluting cars from the roads but asking all drivers to take personal and public vehicles for inspection opens avenues for eating. Isn't it easier to start with vehicles being manufactured or being imported to be inspected before release into the market? Just typical Kenyan officialdom! They could not shut down matatus with loud music, something obvious to discern from having a pair of functioning ears - how are they going to coordinate something like this, which involves hundreds of thousands of cars, probably needs sophisticated machinery and training? 12 units? Ati one for each province? Look at the Mututho laws. I have never been accosted by cops; I even met some in a landcruiser on Elec Avenue in Westi at 3AM on a Saturday and they weren't bothered. Feel-good laws that cannot be practically implemented/enforced are useless. Another avenue to rob Kenyans, as if the 30% PAYE is not enough. Sad thing is Michuki will very likely see this through to the gut-wrenching, pocket-draining end. Now I am pi**ed off.
