“KCB S&L Mortgages will continue operating as an independent division in the group,” said divisional director Caroline Kariuki.

It is quite precise that the banking sector is competitive. And for that reason KCB now presents itself as the most formidable competitor by having worked to enhance its capacity over the last 3 years. It is now the most capitalised bank at 40B(12.5B from the Rights), assets worth 250B and an already established EAC presence (as other banks are now thinking about it). If we understand business cycles then KCB should be our top pick!

I'd say that KCB has a stable, sustainable & profitable local business coupled with an under developed kenyan mortgage mkt while in the same breath the KCB group is exploring vast oppurtunities in the EAC. Thus, in summary I conclude KCB has a firm enough Kenyan base to advance in regional oppurtunities for further growth.
