The past safaricom Chief Technical Officer who stepped down from his post in safaricom after bob collymore organisational restructuring will be in charge of technical services and network development as well as the preparations for the launch of airtels 3G service in Kenya.

Quote:
The Managing Director Mr. Rene Meza said: “John brings true leadership and management expertise to Airtel. We are really pleased to welcome him on board as he takes over the leadership of our technical services and network development to the next level, including our preparations for the launch of our 3G service in Kenya.” He added that John will work hand in hand with the outgoing Network Director Alec Mulonga during the handing over period over the next three months. “Alec has decided to take up a new career challenge outside airtel back in his home country in Zambia having been away from home on international assignments over the last four years,” Mr. Meza explained.

The unexpected has occured. Barrarot joins Airtel as a director after his not so very colourful legacy at Safaricom as CTO ...

@pirate Thats what am wondering How can they trust a guy who has worked in safaricom for 10yrs with such critical responsibilities.

This just shows Airtel is so disorganized to fight safaricom.

He will be just great for the job,he's old school he'll be reliving history since Safaricom is currently going 4G which they will without him. Probably he needs to ensure that he makes the most of that window maybe Airtel wont need him when they in turn go 4G

What for am sure John signed a nondisclosure agreement or whatever its called.HE is bond by law not to divulge any information that might be confidential or injurious to his former employer.

Anyway Airtel move just show how curious they are in getting safaricoms majic bullet which might cost them.

IF I was the CEO I would work on my strengths i.e cost advantage, network coverage and clarity of its network.

trying to fight safaricom with their hama adverts will not work until they match safaricoms product offering.

I remember YU was regarded as the cheapest network when they launched, that advantage was overtaken when airtel too the same strategy.

The only way airtel can offer a good challenge to safaricom is concentrate on its R&D come up with new exciting product offering and ignore safaricom completely because as long as they play by safaricoms rules they will continue holding the NO.2 slot.

Didn't a certain director called Clare Ruto head in the opposite direction? I figure it's all fair in love and war...

Clare ruto and her ilk were safaricoms spies then, that what was said then,But John stepped down after his post became irrelevant.

I thought Airtel 3G rollout was headed by a competent guy only to see a former safaricom guy appointed to such a crucial task...what happens now to the guy who was in charge of the 3G rollout?

Clare left Kitambo sana Safcom dint really need spies Through the decade they have been in existence they made several goofs that they have tried to recover from without success.
Charging per minutes and not changing or caring what safcom was doing.
Voicemail charging that gave it a bad image
Their biggest goof was launching Soko tele and not having proper distribution Safcom comes into the picture with Mpesa and the rest is History.
