The idea of the 10 lanes is not all bad,though i think they should have started with having 10 lanes on mombasa road and eliminating that bottle neck at nyayo stadium,besides the bypass........picture this,all track coming from mombasa,going to ld,kisumu,uganda even rwanda,pass through the uhuru highway.....y does this have to be so,these trucks dont even need to see the city in the first place,,,,what a city plan?

@Wini the pooh:

the bigger question is this: why are the goods being transported by trucks?

Ignorance they say is bliss but it is still inexcusable. All major h/ways are set for major rehabilitation/renovation/recovery and/or expansion.Msa road is set for dual carriage status but for now,only the section between airport road and Machakos junction will boast of a four double lane h/way(Eight lanes if you like). The challenge facing the ministry of roads is not funds but capacity.As a result,they can only undertake so many projects at any given time.These projects are done through bilateral and multilateral financing. Besides,building of infrustructure can and will never be a waste of funds.Let us give credit where credit is due.

Some innovative thinking by the powers that be is also necessary at times.

They should lock heavy vehicles transiting Nairobi from using Mombasa road during peak hours. Say 6.00 am to 9.30 am and again from 4. pm to 8.00 pm. This long distance travelling trucks can re-organise their schedules around this hours. I am sure it will improve traffic flow kiasi (maybe 5-10%).

I've noticed the youth in particular coming in to a workplace with a completely outsized notion of their own value and importance... just a thinly-veiled arrogance. May be the credit crunch induced recession is whats needed to remind us all about the value of hard work.... By Anonymous

Side-bar:

I heard a contractor saying that the greatest challenge in building a road is not getting the money,or the gravel,or the machinery,or the tar. the greatest challenge is where to get enough water!!! That's why the Isiolo-Moyale road is facing so much difficulty...it goes through 500km of desert!!
