Kenya Parliament has given President Kibaki a go-ahead to deploy the military in case diplomacy fails in the ongoing row over Lake Victoria’s Migingo Island.

The House also allowed the President to seek the help of the United Nations Security Council if the matter spills out and threatens regional peace and security.

A step in the right direction

Can't they discuss other important things eg the 'other' 10b typo?
The President is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and doesn't need permission to deploy from parliament.

The president does not require parliament to order the military into action........That's a toothless action and i doubt Baks will move on it strength (or is it weakness?)

God gives,mugikuyu takes.

This thread is itself a misrepresention of facts.
There was no mention of military or armed respose to Uganda's misadventure.
Infact the Govt side opposed it,but the back benchers outnumbered them.
The motion has no effect to the direction Kibaki is likely to take on the Migingo debacle.

@ All,You have fallen victim to media sensationalism. If you listened to the Pigs, you would have appreciated that they wanted the pseudo prezzy to use all options available to solve the issue. Did they say 'War' ? They suggested the UN SC. So they storyline should have read 'Parliament sanctions appeal at UN ......over Migingo. '

All you media dogs and b****es,style up.

And like Njunge says,Kibaki does not need Parliament to tell him if and when to use the military.
