Shame on you we don't need to repeat the same mistake again. the IDPs are what they are because they were settled in the wrong place in the first place. why put them in the middle of a different community. people are bound to feel conned of their own land by foreigners. land belonging to the government belongs to the community arround.

@kipronoh, karibu wazua, if you are not an old wazuan using a different name. Let me start by appreciating your honesty which is absent in many wazuans. I have argued that the violence seen in last elections was caused by ethnic hatred but triggered by the elections. Ethnic hatred that could have been brought up by land issues, unfair distribution of resources, cultural misconceptions etc. However you get it wrong when you assume that IDPs are people who were settled by govt(maybe in 70s under Jomo). A good number of them bought land thru land buying cos then in the agriculturally rich rift valley. Others bought as individuals. Please also note that they are not from 1 tribe as has been the assumption by many. I smell politics...there must be some idiot who fears the 250 families might tilt the scales

@Lolest, Picture this. Taita Taveta has a huge squatter problem. People whose communal land was grabbed by outsiders including the Kenyattas remain landless. Then the government suddenly decides to buy land from the grabbers and resettle IDPs from say Eldoret and Nakuru, yet the gava has never thought of buying the same land to settle locals. If I were a Taveta local, I would be vehemently opposed to this plan. Why would the gava settle outsiders on land grabbed from us in the first place?

I have failed to understand why the government is not buying land for IDPs in non controversial places. There are serious land tycoons in central province from whom land could be bought for those evicted from the RV but I suppose this is rocket science for the decision makers.

If WR and UK are real peace preachers, the simplest way would be for championing for the IDPs to go back to their original land. It is the only way to assure that evictions will never happen again. Hakuna njia ingine!!

I believe the issue of IDP would have been sorted long time ago. Just ask each IDP where he/she came from and take him/her there. Who took the land they came from if they had genuine title? I also suspect that most of the people in camps now are impostors who just want to benefit. Who would agree to stay in a camp for four years and he owned a five acre shamba in Eldoret? All camps will close when one day we will wake to this headline in the daily nation: Impostor IDP jailed for 15 years. Believe me all camps will come down.

My 2 Zim cents.

Kenyans are indeed a crazy lot ! If the comments by Robinhood are anything to go by. so let me correct you if i may @ Robinhood. Squatters are a very different group from IDP's. Squatters already occupy land that is not theirs legally or until when the law deems to tilt in their favor (Ive heard that if they occupy your land for X number of years they are deemed as having rights, somebody please correct me if am wrong)
Secondly if we are to visit the "our" land issue all nairobians would have to relocate because as history teaches the land is communal grazing land for the Maa community.
Thirdly as you put it @robinhood

your argument goes back to your initial statement. Which land is this that would be non controversial if all communities declared "their" land to belong to them only.

@Innuendo, You ignore the fact that the land in question was community land in the first place and was corruptly taken away from them.

@ Robinhood, while it may be indeed true that the squatters live in land that they may regard to as community land, that should not give them the right to stop other kenyans from being settled in another "communal" land. Maybe my memory fails me, but i do recall squatters succeeding in a court case against a former powerful mpig Basil Criticos some years back. That should be used as a precedent and all squatters should file such like cases in the high court to be determined. We should not use kifua all the time lets give our systems a chance to sort it out.smile

i support you fully.

There is no genuine IDP in the camps. Before they were IDPs,they had land which they have titles.
A simple question is who is using their land. What I came to realise is that there are very many imposters or people who were living in low cost areas (slums) (no pun intended) in Eldoret, kericho and the likes. They initially did not have land but now want land.

just look at one peter macharia the IDP who drives an offroad and has a satellite dish in his tent and you understand what i mean by fake IDPs.
