Djinn,
What's your comparison between Nigeria's 2011 polls and kenya's 2002 polls....any parrallels????

@McReggea - I would not draw parallels since in 2002, we were doing away with someone who sat at the helm for decades and held this country back. In Nigeria, its just unfortunate that Yar Adua passed on - he has favour from all quarters and was much liked - though there were some frank enough to admit that he could have been more ASSERTIVE when dealing with his government and other political figures - he was an all round "listener" and Nigeria DID make some positive strides during his tenure.

So, I'd not draw parallels...I'd only single out the Nigeria election vis a vis African elections in the last 2-3 years where the outcome will invariably be violently challenged - its become so common to claim rigging and intimidation. Its become almost acceptable to share power where power really should not be shared. Its become so common to view sharing as the way to stop violence - thereby giving violence a purpose - to gain and share power.

THAT will not happen in Nigeria. I do not think so.

I find it interesting that Gen Buhari, the opposition leader has distanced himself from the chaos and branded those participating as criminals. In Kenya, the opposite happened. Sisemi lingine, but on account of this, djinn is right! Nigerians wako mbele.

I agree with Djinn, the Nigerian elections have gone well and this should improve Africa's image.

The chaos being seen in the North are common place in that area and are more a result of the religious differences than democratic related. I hope the violence stops soon.

I am quite happy for Nigerians and congratulations to them all.

@Djinn, let me clarify! i did not say that 70-30 is a travesty! I said you cannot conclude a country is a true democracy when the figures are that rosy. the best gauge is when the race is tight and people accept that the winner as declared by the election commission indeed won! regardless of how bad it feels to accept the voice of the majority. democracy is not an election nor the transparency of an electoral process, but rather its the acceptance by the citizenry that elections are a means of establishing the will of the masses and that their results are "vox populi" and thus "vox dei"
Kudos to Goodluck Jonathan for winning.
