probably, re-balancing of ones portfolio necessitates consideration of ;

1 time period--how long you intend to maintain the current portfolio depending on your return objectives

2 taxation--securities that need tax exempt are those for high net worth individuals one can avoid investments that produce high current income particularly over long periods where the need for current income is not immediate

3 liquidity--This is based on future spending needs whether immediate or not. an increase in wealth is accompanied with an increase in lifestyle.

hope this helps

EXCELLENT! Always keep no.2. in mind.

Genghis Khan, a couple of book closures coming up in the near term. You might want to keep an eye on the stocks as you aim to restructure your portfolio. All the best

Been thinking hard and long this weekend. With all the oil s**t and politics as we head to 2012 I think I should liquidate every thing and move to money markets or real estate till things are clearer.
For money markets I'm contemplating CFC Stanbic Money Market Fund or maybe one of those Govt Infrastructure Bonds.
For real estate maybe something in my home county as I see demand for housing picking up in a big way with this devolution thing.
I want my exit strategy to be sell anything showing over 75% cap gains. Currently this is only NIC. If I reduce the threshold to 30% then KK, TPS, NMG, KGN will show up, giving enough cash to make a downpayment for a nice apartment. Just thinking.

Good for you that your portifolio is enough to go into an apartment. I dont see big gains in 2011-2013 unlike the past year. I would say go for it.

My portifolio returned 60% in the first quater...if it was not for the losses i took in KQ it would have been 70%...Stocks is the only thing that has offered me such kind of returns...or the other business ventures i have tried have ended in failure...i recently tried to go into the IT business...the stock currently piled in my room is a painful remind of 'stick to what you knw best'
