Container for a House

Hi Gentlemen,
Kindly, help me with your thoughts on my plan.
I have some piece of land 40 km from CBD (along Namanga Road, Kitengela).
Was planning to buy a container, organize it and live in it as I slowly build a permanent structure. For some reason, I dont like a structure made of iron sheets for the walls.
My questions:
(a). How much is a container and where can one find one?
(b). Is there a better alternative than the container?
(c). What are your overall thoughts on the strategy (if it is indeed)?

Not sure if you know me; but your ideas are welcome.
Want to stop paying rent somewhere ASAP!! When end month reaches, I dont like it - especially when people who live in my units elsewhere do not pay me rent on time yet I have to pay rent elsewhere!

there is a guy who sells containers on jogoo Rd, near hamza I have seen some being converted into houses/business structures. On another note Jamii bora had a project of making such houses and selling them cheaply kido 300,000 per 2 bedroom unit why not enquire from them if the project commenced. I will follow up; want to do something where I can live fairly comfortably as I save the 15k I pay somewhere. Plus, I can do small scale farming in the property (1.125 acre).

Depends on several issues
1. Do you have a family?
2. How soon do you intend to finish building? like 1-2years?
3. the cost of the container....
Assuming the container is going to cost you say Kshs200k, installing water, elec etc costs you 30k or so then you may consider moving to a smaller house in the same area (you can get a nice 1 bedroomed for like 6k. If you consider this amount will paid for a duration of time and not immediately, then you will have paid less than half the cost of the container in the 1st year, 2nd year you live on the next half, by which time, hopefully, you will have completed building.... During the period, the part you'd have put the container, you can extend the "farming" and hopefully earn some more on the crop from that space.....
However, if the building will take longer than say 2 years, then you may be better off buying the container.
it sounds cheaper that you are no longer paying rent every month, but if it is for a short period, it might be more expensive buying the container than renting...

Very good advice.
I had this idea as I was putting up my home and similar calculations pointed to NO to CONTAINER.
Abby should just try other alternatives as suggested here

Go for what your heart tells you but my take is that a container is ok,even after you build a house it will still be very useful...a store,weka some kuku,your son can live there,or even sell it. its a good asset. "Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning."

If u r single n realy ready to sacrifice. Get your stuff to someplace,remain wit a few basic ones then move a kasmal hao of less than 5k n save while u jipanga, it wil b worthwile in the end. Namukhaywa: walk by me & ill take u thea.
