I've done a bit of homework but I guess I need validationSad and any new perspectivesThink ... it couldn't hurt...

I have in my small and modest portfolio:

BBK 6.18%
CABL 50.46%
EQTY 7.42%
HFCK 5.36%
JUB 0.00%
KCB 0.00%
MSC 30.58%

I want:

BBK 2.20%
CABL 17.98%
EQTY 2.64%
HFCK 1.91%
JUB 28.06%
KCB 36.31%
MSC 10.89%

Please make comments / criticisms / suggestions on the issues below:

1. I want to do this in April and early May... but by end of Apr I should have already taken a major position.

2. The changes above are from cash injected to Jubilee & KCB only. This is partly new money from savings and also from what I sold kitambo kidogo. I had quite a bit in banks (BBK, EQTY, KCB, HFCK... I missed the DTB boat completely).

3. I have decided not to sell anything... nothing is worth selling at current prices.

4. I got into JUB between 187 and 200 but hurriedly sold at 215 and d'oh! I regret that... I know this shouldn't be a basis for future decisions on the counter but I "FEEL BAD" entering at current prices, my profit threshold for that last deal is 208.20!!!

5. AOC - Any Other Counters

6. AOB - Any Other Business
"I'd rather be lucky than clever... every time!" - ME
"The problem is not what we don't know... it's what we know for sure that just ain't!" - MARK TWAIN
"Space we can recover... time never!" - NAPOLEON BONAPARTE

do the above percentages relate to the proportions of a given amount say 2m of your investment or do they relate to your stake in the respective companies?

I hold everything you do except Cables and HFCK.

I have been restructuring my portfolio from end of last year. I was heavily weighted in financials but decided to spread 25% each in Commercials, Financials and Industrials. The other 25% is for speculation. I have divested from SCB, EQUITY and sort of brought Financials to near the target 25%. I also decided to have an anchor stock in each category, and have KQ, KCB and KK for this. I will however shift whatever I have in NIC for Jubilee at some point.
For speculation I'm holding Mumias which I will dump at 12 when it gets there.

probably, re-balancing of ones portfolio necessitates consideration of ;

1 time period--how long you intend to maintain the current portfolio depending on your return objectives

2 taxation--securities that need tax exempt are those for high net worth individuals one can avoid investments that produce high current income particularly over long periods where the need for current income is not immediate

3 liquidity--This is based on future spending needs whether immediate or not. an increase in wealth is accompanied with an increase in lifestyle.

hope this helps

I have my portfolio fairly balanced in banks and industrials. Limited exposure to commrecials:

1. KCB - 45%
2. CFC - 20%
3. KPLC -30%
4. KenGen - 6%
5. Safcom - 4%

I have been increasing my portfolio in CFC bank as I reduce KCB. In the short-term I will have CFC taking % of KCB, but will later go back to KCB having about 30% and add some NIC. I believe CFC bank has got a huge beating unnecessarily and has a potential to go by atleast 50%.

In the industrials I wll add KenGen and will consider MSC. I will also consider KQ on speculative purposes.

The above does not include OTC securities.

1). Cash 24%
2). KK 45%
3). KPLC 23% &
4). Coop 8%.
I intend to add KenyaRe and dispose KPLC and re-enter KCB.

KCB 70% KenGen 25% KK 5% - King, Queen, Pawn respectively. Unless OTW I am pleased with my portfolio for the longest while possible. Likely accumilation on all counters during dips.

Interesting portfolio, but without seeing average cost, its difficult to give detailed advice.
I never hold more than 3 stocks in a stock exchange. I'd advice sell-off EA Cables (weaker Ksh and price of copper will mean higher cost of sales. TC are the investment group they were with the late James Gachui as chair & also Kibaki going will not favor them).
Not sure why you hold BBK, but if u must I'd swap it with StanCHart for the same proportion.
I'd sell MSC (future will be difficult unless we get another economist/developer as Rais). I'd also sell HFCK. I'd place proceeds of the above sales in Equity.
Finally, I'd look for one of the Aga Khan companies. Any is good...
