What is Mobile Number Portability (MNP)?
MNP is a service offered by all mobile service providers that allows you to switch to another service provider while retaining your existing mobile phone number.

Identification documents needed for Porting
You need one of the following:-
 Kenyan National ID, Valid Passport, Military Identity Card, Valid Work Permit, Alien Card, Valid Driving License, National Identity Card issued by parent country and Certificate of Incorporation or Certificate of Registration (for Corporate Accounts).

How do I port?
Visit a Safaricom Shop or select Dealers, fill in a Number Porting form, pay a fee of Kshs. 200/- (VAT inclusive) and send an SMS request to port to the short code with the word “hama”or “port” to 1501.

What happens to my airtime balance, M-PESA and Bonga when I port?
You are only porting your number and not the services.
You will lose:-
 Airtime – your unused airtime will be lost upon successful porting and will not be carried forward.
 M-PESA – you will lose the ability to use M-PESA if you port to another network.
 Bonga – you cannot port with your Bonga Points.

Can PostPay customers port?
Yes they can but they must clear all outstanding bills before they can port

Yeah, i know safaricom has so many issues that i as a user would love to see sorted out.... but i still know i NEED safaricom more than any other network... why? Because, i have monthly transactions(forget the one offs) i have to make on m-pesa and there is not ZAP in site where i send this money.... so, i know for sure i will not be moving soon.... if only they could sort out the calls dropping and network congestion I am happy where i am.
