The heading is wrong. Only 2 Chiefs have left; CIO & CTO, the rest have either been made directors and GMs or chosen to go a step lower and become H.O.Ds.

I can't wait to see what will happen at the middle level. Watu wataenda. There are so many managers without direct reports.

Technical and Barorot at safcom has always sounded one and the same thing, so at long last he sees the door!!!

@JusBlazin, agreed wrong heading, maybe too eager for heads to go down. Good communication from the CEO though, kills all speculation.

I see some Chiefs have become Heads of Departments - what gives? Does it mean they are paid less, or they suffer lower rank at higher pay until they leave?

And why restructure and retain most? Doesn't it make more sense to just get better ones - some ambivalence perhaps.

Can't argue about the CTO/CIO exits though? CCK rated network worst in Kenya, every so often MPESA down and shops can't serve you because of some tech issue...

@muganda: The way the restructuring has been done, safcom will end up with a seriously layered org. structure. From Bob, to the directors, to the HODs to the Line Managers to the supervisors. The risk is it will embed bureaucracy unless Bob will also delegate decision making authority to HODs!

The HODs are not being paid less, they've just had their JD rewritten and their titles changed. They have been given multifunctional targets and greater responsibilities.

@Sasha.. I heard different. Currently the company is much more "layered". From Bob, Chiefs, HODs, Senior Managers, Managers, Seniors etc etc...about 8 levels.. Bobs intention is to reduce this to about six.. we're watching

@kularaha, you get the 600 MB when you send the IMEI number of the IDEOS to 440. I dont know how exactly you will do that since you are allergic to scon. You can be generous and email the IMEI no to me and I load it on my IDEOS :) g DOT gekko AT ymail DOT com

@qw, I suspect their validation routine checks that a) it is an IMEI no on their database hence confirmation that they sold it and b) the imei no hasnt subscribed to the 600MB. I suspect they dont check from which IMEI the sms has originated, hence it might even load on your mboch's mulika muizi!! After all, it loads on the sim so if @kularaha agrees I can loan out my scon sim card to him to carry out the tasksmile

No. No. No No. No. No . You arent gettin it.u are having the wqong assumption that the 600 mb can be transfeqed from one imei to another.and thatsnt the case. This is a bit technical.
This is how it happens. When safaricom activates the 600 mb on that specific imei next time that specific imei wants to access the internet safaricom internet servers will check in their database if that imei has enough bandwidth (bundle) .and since it has - it was earlier activated - it will be allowed to access the internet.
Imei arent interchangable or changable.
Do u know why china phones ( those counterfeit onces) dnt have imei numbers ? Coz they want to avoid beign trackd.
I hope i have made it as simple as possible.

pole @qw, the MB loads on the sim card, not the imei. you will recall that I experimented with ideos on airtel. at the time my ideos phone had an airtel sim, the scon sim with the 600mb ideos data was chugging along very well on my other phone. I propose you somehow convince @kula to work with me to get this 600mb.

@QW, am sorry that is wrong. The IMEI is just an identity.

Whichever way we look at it. Saf really has to brace itself for an even dryer season. The NSE share index flactuations tells it all.

The free 600 Mb are not loaded onto the IMEI rather the IMEI is used to map the new ideos phone to a specific number; thus it is the number that is loaded with the 600 Mb. What you can do is; if you have a modem, remove the sim card, put it in the new ideos phone, activate the 600 Mb, once confirmation is received, return the sim card to the modem and happy surfing.

Word has it that their was a lot of rot & pillferage within safcom. Actually the main purpose for re-application was to vet these guys & it was to be done by an external org. (Kacc), some guys heard this & opted to leave. From the Huawei story, funny procurement, threats (remember mj's last week) to line activation(dealers earn when a line is activated & some internal guys were in cohoots with these dealers - ever realised that nowadays when you buy a phone line it never requires the whole process of activation as before?).
Actually after this process, safcom is going to become more efficient & costs will go down.

@erifloss hapo umedanganya. This has nothing to do with the purge atSafaricom, rather its coz they recently upgraded their billing platform from Nokia Siemens Networks to Huawei technologies and among the features of this is lines no longer have to be activated via the previous 212 procedure...

@Chris79, it started happening even before the upgrade took place.
