Arsenal fans were dealt another major blow last night - a big rise in season ticket prices. Gooners will have to pay 6.5 per cent more next season. The news comes on the back of a nightmare 13-day spell for Arsene Wenger's men, which has seen them lose the Carling Cup final and knocked out of the Champions League and FA Cup.

Yet 7,000 club level supporters at the Emirates have been told of the increases - and it is feared the 6.5 per cent rises will be applied across the board. A pair of club level seats have increased from £5,200 to £5,540. Season-ticket holder Andy Streballi, 33, from Epping, insisted: "I think the rises are totally unjustified. It has been the most disastrous month ever, going out of three competitions. And now they are putting up the prices."

Arsenal insist the rise is just four per cent, made bigger by the increase in VAT. It is the first hike since the 2008-09 season. A spokesman said: "A decision has not yet been taken on the other prices for next year. Our pricing structure is always done with a lot of thought."

I think Wenger is a great coach. All that is needed is someone to help him plan for a rainy day. You see the main issue is Arsenal has no solutions past the first 11. Once we lose a key player or two, then it unravels. Wenger needs someone that can help him get real squad players. The likes of Denilson, Rosicky and Diaby have outlived their usefulness.

We need real subs that can do a job when called upon when Cesc, Theo, Nasri are injured. Once Wenger sorts this out, trophies will come. This is because its always the squad players that let us down.

@Anasazi....i totally agree with you, very few teams can beat Arsenal with everyone fully fit but once we start to lose players the season ends early for us, this happens in almost all seasons. Unlike Chelsea, Man Utd and now Man City we just don't have bench players who can come into a game and make a difference. I've never understood why Wenger keeps players like Denilson, Rosicky, Eboue in the team. Our starting 11 is usually up to the task, the rest ni ABK.....I hope he won't buy Wes Brown from Man Utd because he has a habit of signing rejects (defenders) from the top teams.

I don't know why aseno fans still believe that aseno is making money.

Apparently the profits have started to disappear just like the trophies. BTW its a major fallacy that aseno are currently making profits.

The balance is not lacking. Both the coffers and the trophy cabinet are currently empty.

Mwenza....Its a 2.5m pounds drop in profits compared to 2009 which is not significant to a club like Arsenal, btw these are just half-year accounts. Compare our financial performance with other top clubs and you'll realize why the Arsenal board is so pleased with Wenger.

Last season we didn't sell any of our top players unlike the previous season when Toure and Adebayor were sold to Man City. Financially Wenger has been exemplary but its about time he forgot about the finances for just one season and make the signings that can win us the title.

C& P Leyton Orient, Chairman Barry Hearn

"I love Wenger," Hearn enthuses, "and in the next four years Arsenal will emerge as the richest club in the world because his business plan is exemplary. You don't see him going in at the last minute on transfer-deadline day and paying way over the top. He researches the market, assesses his targets and plans ahead. He's buying people for three or four million and turning them into players worth 30 or 40 million. Arsenal are running their club like a proper business – and Orient are also sticking to the philosophies that have kept us in business for 130 years. We're standing up to the Bertie Big Bollocks philosophies. Lots of people in football want success for their ego without thinking in a rational business way. All these clubs going into administration and getting out of paying money they owe is just not right. I think it's cheating."

@ McReggae...The difference is just 2.5m pounds so clearly there's more to the profits than just sale of property.

@Taz, I dont know why you get defensive every now and then. Ofcourse the board will love his policy of not buying expensive so that the club can make profits, but as a fan, should your concern be that the club is making money or is winning titles?

Arsenal fans may love, nay, adore the guy. But the same fans know that its very bitter not winning any trophy for the past 5 years, now going to 6. Stop looking at the money factor, Arsenal is a club whose top priority is to win titles; as per the fans, that is. Surely you must feel the discomfort. Unless ofcourse, Arsenal is a feeder club...

@Mwenza....I know you are an Arsenal hater but now you are just looking for anything to critisize Arsenal with. The Fact is that our financial performance has been exemplary for the last i don't know how many years. UEFA recently declared Arsenal a 'role model' club in terms of how a club should be ran. Man Utd sold Ronaldo for 80m but that was still not enough to avoid the loses. Barca have won almost all trophies but their financial performance is pathetic. I know we lack in trophies now but mambo ya biashara, club iko juu.

@McReggae...hii ni talk ya haters, the 2.5m (whether its a loss or drop in profits) id an insignificant amount which is less than what we'll receive from the CL this season alone. This are just half year results thats why kelele inatoka Wazua only. Those properties you keep talking about were still part of the clubs assets so i really don't get your argument....besides we were still performing well before we started selling them. You can't compare our half year results with what Chelsea and Man utd have, tuko mbele mbaya.

When Alfred Mutua, the GK spokesman, puts a spin on political issues, people may forgive him. However if he attempts to put a spin on factual figures, then he wont get away with it.

@TAZ.............Nobody here is comparing financial performances of various clubs, what we are doing is merely dymystifying the myth that aseno are trophyless because they are profitable. We don't even care why they made losses......We are nonetheless shocked that they can make losses without signing a marquee player.

Even after he has been given facts, he is still in denial. He thinks by introducing extraneous issues we shall let him off the hook.

But I now have reasons to believe that the dude can't believe that aseno can make a loss. Mr bean still cheats them that the club is profitable even when audited figures prove otherwise.

True am not an aseno fan and I don't wish to be one.

We have been mislead severally that aseno(this team which the other day broke the record of zero shots on/off target in CL) are trophyless because they don't spend money on marque players. Now we know better. Audited figures don't lie.
