the current restructuring by safcom will only reduce cases of fraud within th company and bring in some bit of efficiency. however, this will not reduce the huge costs they are runnin with so as to generate sustainable growth levels. i feel they need 2 do more

Now,lets be sensible enough n get to the botom of this guys. Saf has neva 'downsized' workforce n 'merged' its depatments since inception. Do we jus assume bob is laying off jus a few staff to hav diner at his place then he reeinstates them in a wks time? Cmon! Look up! The sky is darkenin. N anyone whos nt hearin the word 'BUSSINESS' for the first time knws tooo well wat ths means... STORM

Does this restructuring mean a revenue drop @ Scan considering Saf has been their "cash cow" and I don't see Airtel compensating via aggressive marketing like Zain used to do...

Restructuring frankly means to cut off some slack. Some posts will be lost. Downsizing or rightsizing all lead to the same station - job loss.

Now looking forward, the board of cck want the ceo out - no contract renewal. I guess the price war & constant loggerheads with ndemo & some operators, overcooked his goose. Read here - http://www.businessdaily...4/-/eo20uc/-/index.html

No wonder the strange demand for safcom share. Rebound should target 4.40.

With waweru's likely out I wonder what will be airtel's response...

@mukiha are you sure ?
Shame on you

On this one Mukiha is right, only issue was Kencell/celtel/zain didnt take ownership they left it to K-rep and no adverts or budget for it was allocated safcom perfected it, and by the way it is said that the safcom staff that made it work as is now used to work for Kencell/celtel/zain and no one listerned to him the rest is......

mpesa launch date : 13 Feb 2007
sokotele launch date : 4th April 2007

True that, but the product was already in the market and Kencell/celtel/zain expected K-rep to do the ads for them this didnt happen once they noticed safcom picking up with mpesa they went for a launch or rather a relaunch since it was already active in the market

Well most Telcos after start-up restructure/downsize every 3 years this is done silently behind the scenes. Kencell/celtel/zain has done it 3 to 4 times, telkom its known, Yu has done it to some positions not massively but outsourced fully its custcare iko talk of doing it on IT&network dept. Safcom was the remaining company and this was bound to happen... sharp Telco employees know this very well thats why the keep moving and asking for high salos

As a consumer I am happy...

Me too gone are the days when I used to make calls with my eyes on the clock..

Nowadays I find myself enjoying my calls very much.Airtel may not make profits for now but we the mobile phone consumers shall forever remain indebted to them and one day they shall get their just rewards..

As expected with that CCK news flash on the termination of the head, buyers stepping on the plate to push scom back above 4/- From this excessive oversold levels - 4.40 should be first target towards 4.80 before the next selling bout.

Airtel has failed to delist from Zambia stock exchange for the 3rd attempt. Seems the Zambian LuSE head is not willing to let them pay the remaining 3% public shareholders pennies...

Kencell/Celltel/Zain were always one step ahead of SCOM in product innovation. First to introduce SMS

Are you sure?

Yes; we [Kencell customers] were sending SMSs for a while before SCOM started. And also sending SMS abroad...

With all due respect, you are wrong on this one. I had both Kencell and Safaricom lines and I can state categorically that SAFARICOM introduced SMS service ahead of Kencell.

@all

Kwanini mnatoa Mukiha rangi?

This is very mbad. we might lose this serious contributor.

Hatumtoi rangi. We all realise he is a serious and a seasoned contributor to Wazua but that does not make him infallible.

I particularly remember him stating confidently sometime back on a Nakumatt thread that John Harun Mwau, despite what has been in the public domain, "OWNS ZERO SHARES IN NAKUMATT".
