Marende was an ODM MP,he owes his election to parliament and as the speaker to ODM leader Sir Odinga,If he decides to scratch back what will the president who is out of country react and what will it mean? will it be a case of dis-respecting the presidency or will he have done what kenyans want?

life is an endless adventure

Should we trust him to make the decision YOU would like him to make or make the decision your nemesis would have him make (in which case you would say he is untrustworthy) or should we trust him to make a balanced decision based on the circumstances Kenya is going through, the raison de etre of why we are where we are? Unfortunately, like I have just commented elsewhere, this discussion is going to immediately be driven by people's prejudices based on their sociocentric views i.e'we (our society, read tribe) believe in and so I believe in.........' as well as their own self evaluation/justification i.e. 'I believe in and therefore it must be true'. Very few will engage in this discussion with critical thinking having removed these prejudiced viewpoints that are obscuring the vision of most Kenyans. I suggest people try to go back in time (2007/8 and the events that unfolded before our very eyes) and move from there to this point of what Marende should do (and it is my belief it really should not have been down to Marende to begin with). The Marende issue is simply an indicator of our collective failure.

Marende has in the past made balanced and impartial decisions as evidenced during the swearing in of MPs in parliament. He will interprete the Law as it is. I hope he has Presidential ambitions coz he is among the very few Kenyan politicians who exude political maturity.

can we trust him? ummmhh....its all depends on your side of political devide as @charlie has put it!!

however, this is a golden moment for the speaker to cement his maturity in intervening at such a critical moment. and as @stocksmaster has pointed out,if the guy has any future political aspirations then this is his moment. It may not be neccessarily the presidency but even keeping his job. You see ODM may have put him where he is,but can the same maintain him there??

What if he decides to make the hse vote!? This may act against the president indirectly.

A likely impossibility is always preferable to an unconvincing posibility.

The Speaker is suppose to be neutral, and hence should be trusted.

Marende is a sober man.
He will interprete the relevant laws in a non partisan manner.

I cannot imagine the kind of pressure this man has had to bear to come to this moment.Being a good student of history,I see him standing in the gap of failed leadership to offer guidance which may offer hope to Kenyans as well as try and restore our battered image abroad. Say a prayer for him this morning.
