There is a 'rebellion' planned for Feb 28 by Kenyans on twitter.First they planned to hoot nonstop at a predesignated time...this was seen as lame, now they have changed their tact they want every Kenyan to sing the National anthem on that date claiming this protest will unite Kenyans towards a common purpose(or something on those lines)

My view is that this is also lame unless you involve all kenyans especially the common man like ODM did in 2008 nothing will ever be done.

we as Kenyans have a VERRRYYYY long way to go especially in terms of unity and tribal issues....

Problems can get out of proportion, and not only in the wee small hours. Don't let the problems eclipse the Master. Let the Master eclipse the problems.

I thot the hooting and the national anthem r two different events?? nway I think the national anthem idea is a good one but only if we do it regularly n on special days like 28FEB, 4AUG,27AUG hata 14FEB. and we also make sure that we the pple control it (it should never get to gava hands).

The other day when some civil societies were protesting against kibakis nomination,a prokibaki group attacked them, this shows how polarized the country is to ever achieve what the Egyptian protesters achieved.

I said it in another similar thread, and I'll say it again here.

William Ruto stole staple food to the tune of several billions from our starving nation and came out a few weeks later being touted as an innocent Kalenjin hero who has fought against the odds.

If someone can steal food from a starving people and the same people defend him, you think a few honks of a horn, or some verses of the national anthem will change their mind?

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

this qualifys to be another joke of the year...
please
-what percentage of kenyans know what twitter is?
-what percentage of motor vehicles owners know what twitter or youtube is.. unless you want to hoot alone in the street .

the only media that can spearhead such a process in kenya is only the mainstream media radio.TV.newspapers. do you think they can do it?

@selah
this is a very noble idea but i am sorry to have burst your bubble. such a protest can only happen where 90% of the population is of the same culture or language.

finally don't forget that in this country we always have a chance to change the government after 5 years.the government you want to protest against. has more grass root support than you think.(whether you want to bury your head in the sand or not kenya is a tribal country).60% of tribes had rejected kibakis rule in 2007. the number has dropped to 19% meaning kibaki has regained confidence of 41%of tribes that had initially rejected him.when you add the 40% that approved of his leadership you get 81% of kenyan tribes approval rating.
Politics is just things to keep the people divided and foolish and put your trust in men and none of them can do nothing for you...

I dont know why pple are so negative about this protest I think Its high time WE KENYANS took control of our destiny. Its quite discouraging to see people who complain about tribal politics in this forum do not support efforts to unite Kenyans thru' the national anthem just because the protest was initiated by kenyans on twitter.

Remember the protest in Egypt and Tunisia were not at first aimed at toppling their governments, it was used first to voice their anger on the rising cost of living then when the govt turned a blind eye to their cries it metamorphosed into a protest for regime change.

WE all agree this country is not heading in the right direction if the current crop of politicians continue with the current trend so its imperative we take this issue personally as kenyans and take to the streets. To show them we are not happy with what they are doing.

unless there is a march this exercise is a waste of time.Imagine going in a bank and everyone start singing the national anthem...yeah its patriotic but not all that....even though we are united by the national anthem it doesn't really make us one In reality.
