There is definitely something fishy going on around this company, after battling with west kenya sugar company for years this company was eventually inaugurated by the Prime minister last month, today the court has suspended its licence after west kenya sugar cited proximity crisis arguing that Butali broke the 24-kilometre radius rule as well as infringe on its catchment area.

According to the business daily the Construction of the factory — whose foundation was laid by President Kibaki at the height of the 2007 elections campaign — is estimated to have cost Sh3 billion, most of it in the form of loans from financial institutions, that pegged repayment on the proceeds of the sugar miller.

The J who made that ruling should be first to be vetted.

There are some powerful forces trying very hard to protect West Kenya sugar company and there are some companies which are even located closer than the two. the president laid the foundation stone, the prime minister inaugurated Butali which forces are these that have even managed to sack a few heads of the sugar board authority. Both companies should operate and the most competitive one left to flourish, the cane farmers are the ones to benefit from competition of the two companies talk about empowering the grassroots.

butali is indeed closed because of some archaic, ridiculous restrictions on the minimum distance between sugar factories. but condemning and commending judges depending on what's convenient is getting lame.

1. the license was issued in disregard of a court order.

2. the same Justice Musinga who is considered an angel for ruling some nominations unconstitutional is now considered a daimono for ordering that the license remain suspended.

I support Butali... More competition but also why were they allowed to build the factory in the first place?

This is not a small extension to a house or office... This is a huge KES 3bn factory. Everyone knew it was being built!
