@ wakanyugi,

like i said numbers represent quantities just like your name represent you and they have been in existence since time immemorial...the fact that they were given unique denotations does not change their purpose and usage.

the superstitions issues attached to the numbers for example the unlucky number 13 is purely mans long past experience which have got nothing to do with the quantities they represent.

@Kama

But what about...

8*5 = 40 (4+0)=4????

8*6 = 48(4+8= 12,1+2)=3???

There is something special about number 9... Try the same sequence for ALL multiple of 9

Number patterns are only useful for helping remember something. For example,I have a friend whose birthday is 6th July. I will never forget the date because the last time we celebrated it we were finalists at university; the date was 6/7/89....get it? 6-7-8-9!!

Thus you could also use the pattern 09/09/09 to remember a special occurrence on that day. Apart from that; the patterns are completely useless and meaningless!!! After all,we could have decided to have ten months in a year instead of 12 and that would have put the label 09/09/09 to a different day...

@ all

i want to dispel the notion created @ mukiha that numbers are not that important...

just ask yourself the following questions...

1) how comes you recall the day you were born with numbers...
2) after birth you were weighed and your progress monitored with numbers...
3) at school and at work (pay) every thing is assessed via numbers...
4) when you die, people will remember the day not by its 'real day' but by date = numbers...
5)....
6)...
.
.to get in touch with you via cellphone,we dial numbers...
.
.commodities we buy are value using numbers...
.
.many people (many=numbers) aren't that good in maths(=numbers)...
.
.
the list on importance of numbers is so long an indicator that every person's life revolves around numbers even if they don't notice it!

in short NUMBERS SIMPLIFY OUR WORLD......
