it appears that the countless police crack downs on deffective and unroad worthy motor vehicles, not to mention the over hyped michuki rules have failed to reduce deaths on our roads. I do not understand why the nation should continue aggitating for measures that have already failed, instead of thinking outside the box for fresh workable ideas.
As already pointed out elsewhere, the initial succes of the so called michuki rules was due to reduction of travel activities by forcing thousands of vehicles off the road. Furthermore the high cost of transportation resulted in essential travel, while millions who could not afford opted to walk home. This effectively limited the interaction of humans and machines, hence the low death toll.
In the meanwhile, nothing has changed as far as training of drivers is concerned. No mandatory refresher courses. No prior medical testing...........No re examination before renewal of licenses. Out dated traffic policing techniques...................The list is endless. Surely,we do not need another michuki for this?
