I came across this book a few years back :-
Financial Intelligence by Ronald Franklin, the summary of it is as follows :-

One should invest in ALL listed investment product to attain a balanced portfolio :-

(1) Stocks
(2) Real Estate
(3) Mutual Funds (let experts invest for you)
(4) Savings (guaranteed easy access to funds)
(5) Fixed Income (Bonds, Treasury bills, fixed
deposits))

As an addendum, I will add that in this part of the world (third world countries),I suggest that at least 50% of your savings should be in strong currencies (USD, Sterling Euros).

Over here in Nigeria interest is paid on domicilliary accounts (USD,sterling, Euro account).

The exact ratio of the above is at your discretion.
