Sudanese are very hostile people, u may laugh with them here but wakiwa kwao ni mambo mbaya. Be very careful with these guys.

i am watching this situation very closely w/ both fingers and toes crossed.....any body still wondering why k.c.b and co-op have been 'lagging' behind in the stock market rally..both have huge investment in Souther Sudan. if all goes peacefully we'll reap handsomely from the two banks.

Co op has nothing in south sudan as yet but are planning to invest if all goes well in the referendum..

Kind of agree with you...except I don't think they are any more or less violent than ANY other group of people (everyone gets SUPER pissed off if you push the right buttons). Aspiring Kenyan businesspeople should behave with the kind of decorum they expect of foreign investors into Kenya. Nothing galls a country's populace more than foreigners who think they can waltz in, make money in businesses and walk off again, not having invested in developing their customers' communities, genuinely partnered with local businesses and empowered their communities to grow on their own!
That resentment never disappears...so even if it means reduced profit margins, a longer stay in the country, hiring and developing local talent,etc....it pays off in the end.

Do they have universities by the way? The south that is... i know North has a number.

Ours is a hunter "Bull" mentality. That of striking then leaving casualties behind.
thats why Kenya is awash with lotteries aka Ponzi/pyramid schemes, corruption etc. no one cares about tomorrow!

@Wendz,

I think there is a JUBA university. How good/ relevant it is to the populace is another issue. Maybe a college would make more returns considering the education levels of those guys.

Well i may not be overly conversant with what companies in Kenya are are looking at the |SS pie, but for all aspiring businessmen who think this is an opportunity to go reap a fortune well sorry to burst your bubble but forget it.

I did some biashara of Timber in SS way back in 2004 with some UG colleagues, and it was amazing, SS was not regulated at-all we just went there got timber and sold it in UG. We made cash for the 1 year we did this. Soon things changed, however we hade made our killing and as we were barely out of campus, it was a nice adventure. The big players started to get in, I remember once paying $100 in Rumbek for accomodation in a bloody tent for a night.Regulation followed and we were out as quick as we had got in.

If you are not in the big league, do not echo Manu Chandaria, SS will swallow you trust me on this!! My .5 naira!!

It certainly is not the most lucrative market for sellers (pop of 8.5m) and most leaving on less than a $ a day.

However for extraction type business, it should be a gold mine, I understand there are lots of Timber etc.

Anyway, they must join the EAC ASAP so we can colonise them properly
